Which Music Phone Should I Buy?

August 30th, 2011 by Thomas

The best music phone you can currently buy is the iPhone 4.

There. Easy.

Now be on your way.

What are you still doing here?

Oh, you’re interested in alternatives.

Well, there are a few worth looking at now you come to mention it.

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman

Hot off the press, Sony have just announced a brand new music phone that will be hitting shelves towards the end of 2011.

Powered by Android 2.3 the Live features a dedicated Walkman button for instant access to the music player.

You can also Like, Share, and Discover content through the phone’s Facebook integration (that’s the ‘Live part).

Sony are trying to sell this device on sound quality, claiming their xLOUD technology will enhance audio output from the onboard speakers.

It’s certainly a sleek looking device, boasting impressive features including a 5MP camera and a toughened mineral glass screen.

Music-lovers should certainly be keeping a lookout for this phone as Sony has a history with music-on-the-go devices.

Samsung Galaxy S II

If you don’t want to wait for an Android-powered phone that can handle all your mobile-music needs, then the awe-inspiring Galaxy S II is currently the best in class.

Boasting 5.1 virtual surround sound, the S II immediately improves the quality of the track you’re listening to.

Although there’s no button to instantly switch to music-playing mode, you can get a smart music control widget in the notification bar that allows you to easily switch between tracks no matter where you are in the phone. Fancy.

You can also setup Smart Playlists, allowing you to see the songs you’ve just added or the tracks you’ve listened to the most.

All sound file types are supported too, so whatever you download will instantly work on the S II. Now that’s impressive.

Aside from the music features on offer, this phone is stacked (and I mean STACKED) with features to salivate over.

As of August 2011, this is the best phone money can buy and it gives the iPhone 4 a real run for it’s money on the music-front too.

Apple iPhone 4

The iPod revolutionised music, but now the iPhone has picked up the baton and become the jewel in Apple’s crown.

It’s not just the awesome iPod technology that’s built in or the might of the iTunes store that makes this phone so excellent for listening to music, it’s all the other little touches.

For instance, you can shake the device to shuffle songs. You can create playlists directly on the phone.

The music will also fade out when you receive a call and pause when you answer, meaning you can carry on where you left off as soon as the call ends.

All of this combined makes for one awesome audio experience, hence why, despite the competition, the IPhone still rules the world of mobile music.

Apps

It’s worth remembering that with applications like Spotify and other cloud-based music services, the way we listen to music whilst out and about could be about to change completely.

So in future it might be less about the hardware (i.e. the phone you have) and more about the software you’re using.

Although I suspect Apple will have something to say about that.
