HTC Titan VS HTC Radar Showdown!

September 12th, 2011 by Caroline

HTC Titan VS HTC Radar

Two mighty contenders have just entered the WP7 smartphones arena in the shape of the HTC Titan and the HTC Radar.

Announced during IFA in early September, both new HTC handsets run on the Windows Phone 7 Mango version of the platform and sport an array of high-end features.

But, what we want to know is – which one is the best?

Now okay, we know it’s not really that straightforward and like other showdowns – be they BlackBerry Torches, Samsung Galaxies or Sony Ericsson Xperias – we need to remember key details like price, when the phones go head-to-head!

Although there’s no official word from the networks on when you can expect to get your hands on the Titan and Radar, HTC did advise during the official unveiling that the phones would be released in October. And online retailer Expansys is in agreement, giving the HTC Titan an “expected release date 04 October 2011”.

So with possibly only a matter of weeks before these new WP7 phones land, let the showdown begin!

Design

As you’ve no doubt guessed from the naming of these phones, one is an absolute powerhouse while the other is more traditional in size.

The HTC Titan is vast yet slim, with a slight 9.9mm frame and large 4.7 inch Super LCD display. The HTC Radar’s display has the same 480 x 800 pixels resolution Super LCD display and Gorilla Glass attribute, but measures 3.8 inches and has a still-slim-but-not-as-slim 10.9mm frame.

Both the Titan and the Radar have an aluminium unibody design for a contemporary look, although we have to say we think the Titan just edges ahead when it comes to sleekness and smooth lines.

However, design preference will really come down to the size and weight of phone you like. Given its massive size, the Titan is obviously heavier than the Radar as well as taller and wider.

Features

Despite shared features including nice camera functions – both handsets’ inbuilt camera has a dedicated button, f/2.2 aperture lens and 28mm wide-angle lenses for capturing panoramic shots, for example – operating system and RAM (both come with 512MB of RAM), the Titan naturally has more powerful features than the smaller Radar.

The HTC Titan has 16GB of inbuilt storage, is powered by a 1.5GHz processor and has an 8-megapixel camera with 720p video support and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. Software such as Microsoft Office Mobile for accessing and editing documents on the move is also included.

The HTC Radar has internal storage of 8GB, is powered by a 1GHz processor and sports a 5-megapixel camera with 720p video capabilities and VGA front-facing camera.

Other shared features include the HTC Watch function which lets you enjoy movies on the handset and the Virtual 5.1 surround sound capabilities.

Operating system

Both the Titan and the Radar run on WP7 Mango, which means you’ll benefit from updated delights including the ability to make Skype video calls and enjoy internet sharing.

Verdict

These high-end smartphones are set for an October release so we’ll keep you posted on the all-important pricing and launch details.

And in terms of the showdown, you decide the winner! Do you want a smartphone that is big and ideal for entertainment (especially watching movies and gaming) as well as work, or do you want a more modest yet capable handset?

We’d love to hear your thoughts, so please do share them with us below.
