IFA 2011: Predictions

September 1st, 2011 by Caroline

The world’s largest technology event has opened its doors once again, and promises to unleash a number of exciting new smartphones and tablets for you to add to your Christmas wish list 2011.

Over the last few weeks, some mobile phone manufacturers have been leaving us little hints and suggestions (ie video footage, mainly) and the rumour mill has been working overtime to deliver all sorts of possibilities.

So let’s take a quick look at what some of the companies may offer us at IFA 2011.

Samsung

It all started back in mid-August, when we knew Samsung, along with BlackBerry and HTC, was planning something big for us.

The company released a couple of teaser videos to whet our appetite for the upcoming new devices no doubt.

Then we discovered through Samsung’s IFA app that three gadgets were waiting in the wings for this year’s event – the Galaxy Note, Wave 3 and Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Since then, Samsung has officially introduced lots of lots of lovely new phones. We have the quartet of new Galaxy smartphones (W, M Pro, Y and Y Pro), LTE versions of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 8.9, and a trio of new Bada Wave phones (3, M and Y).

So that leaves the mysterious Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tab 7.7 to surprise us at IFA, right? Wrong, because there’s also the chance the Google Nexus Prime, reportedly built by Samsung, may be unveiled at the event too…

And the Galaxy Note and Tab 7.7 are no longer a surprise as Samsung has just introduced them! Click here for further details and to share your thoughts with us on the new devices!

BlackBerry

RIM has been busy lately, introducing new high-end smartphones alongside affordable models in the shape of the Bold 9900, Torch 9810 and Torch 9860 and Curve 9360.

So we expect these new handsets will be on display but maybe no new phones…

Nokia

Again, Nokia has already given us some shiny new Symbian smartphones (700, 701 and 600) so what else has the company in store for us at IFA? We’re hoping for a bit of WP Mango action ourselves, and the unveiling of the first Nokia Windows Phone handset…. The Nokia 800, perhaps?

Sony Ericsson

We’re looking forward to a closer inspection of the just-announced Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S and Xperia neo V smartphones, as well as the Live with Walkman phone.

HTC

Previously, there were rumours about the Mango-based phones HTC Eternity and HTC Omega handsets, so there’s a good chance these will materialise during IFA.

HTC has a Facebook-arranged event scheduled in London for later today, so watch this space to see what brand new HTC handset is coming your way later this year. And the company is making its announcement this evening, so we’ll know all very soon!

What are your predictions for IFA 2011?

Stay tuned for the unveiling of the new smartphones and tablet devices!
