While you eat your breakfast or checkout the latest happenings on Facebook, contemplating the day ahead, why not take a quick look at our roundup of yesterday’s phone news – including the HTC Explorer, iPhone 4S, Android Ice Cream Sandwich and upcoming Samsung event.
HTC Explorer unveiled

This new Gingerbread-based smartphone boasts modest features including a 3.2 inch HVGA display, 600MHz processor and 3-megapixel camera, and was introduced by HTC yesterday.
Designed for simplicity, you can expect the HTC Explorer to be out soon and for a very reasonable price.
iPhone 4S’s box barcode leaks, 8GB iPhone 4 may be on its way too

We’re just days away from Apple’s big event on 4th October and still more rumours are appearing that point towards an unveiling of not one, but two new iPhones.
This rumour is nothing new but it seems increasingly likely Apple will unveil both the iPhone 4S (whose box barcode leaked, photo thanks to jailbreakiphone4u) and iPhone 5 next week.
According to the site’s sources, the new iPhone/s will have larger screens, improved antenna and 8-megapixel snappers.
The sources also said that parts are being made by “an unnamed China manufacturer” for a cheaper 8GB version of the iPhone – we’ve had word previously of an 8GB iPhone 4 – that will be released imminently.
Three days to go until all is revealed!
Ice Cream Sandwich captured on camera

The latest version of the Android operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich, is expected to be released in the next couple of months. But this hasn’t prevented a video being leaked, apparently showing the new flavour of Android in all its glory.
The video came into existence when a guy bought a Samsung Nexus S on eBay and noticed something was different about it. When he checked the About details, he spotted it was running on Ice Cream Sandwich OS.
Shown off in a short video and captured in screen shots (thanks to Engadget for the pic), Ice Cream Sandwich appears to have a number of new features including a new Google Apps icon.
In terms of whether this is the genuine article, we’ll have to just wait and see.
Samsung event on 11th October is all about Google

The press invites have been sent for a Samsung event in October, with the date confirmed as the 11th as well as what’s on the menu – it’s to be a “Google Edition” of Samsung’s “unpacked” event.
Enticing us with the words “get a look at what’s new from Android” it seems highly likely that Ice Cream Sandwich OS will be the focal point of the day. (Thanks to AllThingsDigital for the image.)
This fits with earlier rumours that suggested the Nexus Prime, expected to run on Ice Cream Sandwich, is coming in October.
So, with the newest Android version likely to be revealed in less than two weeks’ time, maybe the leaked video is real after all…
