Smartphone sales are soaring at the moment, with two of the most sought-after devices hitting milestones over the weekend.
iPhone 4S hits 4million in 1 weekend

Apple’s iPhone 4S hit the 4million unit sales point in just 3 days, the company has confirmed. In addition, 25million customers are now using iOS 5 and 20million have registered for iCloud.
We can’t say we’re overly surprised, following 1million pre-order sales in one day…
“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekend—the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
He added: “iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”
Samsung Galaxy S hits 30million

Not wanting to be outdone, Samsung has also released the latest figures for its flagship device Galaxy S. Global sales of the Samsung Galaxy S are near the 20million mark whereas the Galaxy S II has hit 10million unit sales.
Samsung has revealed that the S II is its fastest selling device, with a handset sold every second since its launch!
Samsung tries to ban iPhone 4S in Australia and Japan

Despite impressively hefty sales by both companies recently, the battle between Apple and Samsung rumbles on.
Samsung launched a suit against Apple on Monday 17th October, in a bid to block sales of the iPhone 4S in Australia and Japan.
On the same day, Samsung also lodged an appeal against the court decision last week to temporarily ban sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia.
The legal battle has now escalated to “more than 20 patent infringement cases in 10 countries,” smh.com.au reports.
In a statement, Samsung said: “Samsung’s preliminary injunction request in Australia cites three patent infringements related to wireless telecommunications standards, specifically Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) and HSPA.
“The injunction request in Japan cites infringements on one High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) standard-related patent and three user interface patents, which seriously violate Samsung’s intellectual property.
“In light of these violations, Samsung believes the sale of such Apple devices should be injuncted. Apple has continued to violate our patent rights and free ride on our technology. We will steadfastly protect our intellectual property.”
