Motorola have tonight launched the Motorola RAZR, their latest Android smartphone. If the name sounds familiar it’s because the original ‘RAZR ‘ series of clamshell phones rank among the most successful mobiles of all time, selling in excess of 130 million units. In the US the new RAZR will be marketed as the “Droid RAZR” but over here in the UK we’ll be calling it simply the “Motorola RAZR”.

Though it bears the same name as the original RAZR in the UK, you’re not likely to confuse the re-imagined Motorola RAZR with its predecessor. Gone is the original’s signature clamshell design, replaced by a modern candybar form with a large touchscreen taking centre stage. At 7.1mm thick, Motorola is boasting that the RAZR is now the world’s thinnest smartphone – a title that’s previously been held by Samsung’s Galaxy SII and Apple’s iPhone 4.
The new RAZR is a full featured Android 2.3 smartphone boasting a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a full Gigabyte of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. The RAZR also features a 4.3 inch Super-AMOLED screen that promises to rival pretty much anything on the market at the moment.
We’re currently expecting a UK launch for the Motorola RAZR in November.
