Phones Coming Soon and Latest Releases: Week 40

October 3rd, 2011 by Caroline

Mobile phones are released so quickly nowadays that sometimes it can be hard keeping track of the handsets that are coming soon and those that are newly available.

If you’re in the market for a new smartphone, here’s a quick roundup of which phones are heading your way and on which UK networks. You’ll note that quite often, an expected release date for a phone is pushed back – for example, a few mobiles that featured in last week’s catch-up now have an October launch date.

However, there are ample handsets that are now available too

So read on to find out what’s what and what’s when in the world of phones.

O2

At the end of last month, O2 added a trio of new smartphones to its Coming Soon page.

These were the HTC Rhyme and HTC Sensation XE, together with the Samsung Galaxy Y. All three were added on 27th September and are expected later this month.

If you’re after a budget phone, similar in price to the Galaxy Y rather than the Sensation XE, you may be interested to note that O2 added the Samsung E1190 to its Coming Soon list on 2nd October. This compact flip phone is designed to be simple to use and features Samsung’s mobile tracker so you can trace your handset should it ever go missing.

The network has also made some changes with a couple of phones that were due to arrive in September. Both the BlackBerry Curve 9360 and Sony Ericsson Mini Pro are now expected in October.

On the plus side, though, O2 released four new handsets on 27th September: the BlackBerry Torch 9860 and Torch 9810, Samsung Galaxy W and Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray.

Orange

Orange has just added the BlackBerry Torch 9860 to its Coming Soon page, and you can expect to buy Torch 9860 on Orange deals in the next few weeks.

Also, the network is now offering the Samsung Galaxy Mini in steel grey. If you love the Galaxy S smartphone but can’t quite stretch to its price, you should take a look at the Galaxy Mini as it is in many ways a scaled-down version of the popular phone.

Virgin

Virgin has had a busy few days, added three new phones to its network.

First to join Virgin’s airwaves was the Virgin VM720 on PAYG. This budget friendly handset comes in purple and is available now, having been released on 27th September.

Then the Samsung Galaxy W was added to Virgin’s Coming Soon page on 29th, swiftly followed by the BlackBerry Torch 9810 on 30th September. So keep yours eyes peeled as these phones are set for an imminent release.

Three

Three was quick off the mark last week, confirming immediately that the just-unveiled HTC Explorer is heading to its network soon.

And last Friday, 30th September, was the launch date for the BlackBerry Torch 9810 on Three. You can buy this slider smartphone for £37 a month on Three’s One Plan or for £449.99 on PAYG.

Vodafone

Like Three, Vodafone didn’t lose any time following the introduction of the HTC Explorer smartphone last week and you can expect this device on Vodafone soon.

And if you’ve been waiting for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S handset, you’re in luck as Vodafone released this phone on 29th September. You can buy the Xperia Arc S on contract from £31 per month.

T-Mobile

The phone deals expected to land on T-Mobile in September (including the BlackBerry Curve 9360, Torch 9860 and Bold 9900, and Nokia 700) have been changed to an October expected arrival date.

Are you tempted by any of these phones coming soon or new releases?
