Access WP7 Demo Site On Your iOS and Android Phones

November 30th, 2011 by Caroline

Tempted by the cool design of the Nokia Lumia 800 but unsure whether you’ll take to the Windows Phone 7 platform? Then go ahead and have a little play with the operating system – on your own phone!

Yes, iOS and Android users can now experience WP7 on their handsets thanks to Microsoft’s mobile demo site.

It’s a great marketing idea because mobile operating systems are big deals, and switching from your current favourite (quite possibly Android or iOS) can be a big no-no for some of us.

You get used to the UI and navigation means of your OS, which, let’s be honest, is unlikely to be WP7 at the moment. After all, Windows Phone only has a 1% share of the mobile phone market so there aren’t many users out there right now.

So how do you get your hands on the WP7 demo site on your phone?

Well, simply head on over to Microsoft’s demo site and before you can say “what’s this OS all about” a simulated version of the Windows Phone platform will have loaded, ready for you to explore.

The mobile demo site for WP7 includes swipe action navigation and, of course, the trademark tiles.

You just tap the different tiles to access the particular area: Phone, People, Messaging, Calendar, Outlook, Family and Local Scout.

The 7 tiles include Local Scout which shows you the nearby places – food and drink outlets, then by scrolling right-to-left you’re shown things to see and do, shops and highlighted venues. And People, which shows you what’s new, including your friends’ latest Facebook posts so you can comment easily too.

We’ve had a play and it’s quite convincing. Although not as quick as the real thing and you can’t customise it, it still gives you a good idea of what to expect.

So why not point your browser here and have a play with WP7? And then share your thoughts with us below, as we’d love to know what you make of your hands-on time.
