Orange UK has revealed plans to ditch a number of handsets in the coming months.
At the end of January, you won’t be able to buy the HTC Flyer tablet on Orange any more – and that’s because it is on the network’s end-of-life list. Similar in size to the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Flyer was introduced during MWC 2011 so perhaps it’s no coincidence Orange is planning to drop this tablet just before this year’s MWC.
Does Orange want to clear some shelf space for a HTC Flyer II, or simply for the various quad-core handsets expected from the manufacturer including the Edge/Supreme?
Similarly, if want to get hold of the Torch 9860 smartphone on Orange you’ll have to be quick, as come February it will have reached the end of its life on the network. A successor to the Torch 9800, the 9860 model comes with a non-traditional BlackBerry design and full touchscreen. However, there’s no need to panic too much as T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone are all still selling this BlackBerry device.
Orange is also dropping the Nokia E6 at the end of the month.
Come March time, and the 8GB iPhone 3G S will be unavailable from Orange. You’ll still be able to buy the iPhone 4 and 4S versions – and maybe it is time to move on from the 3G S model.
We suspect Orange is making space for the next-generation iPhone, which according to a Foxconn employee is braced for a summer launch.
The iPhone 5 is thought to feature a 4-inch display and a very different design to the current smartphone, and there’s a great deal of anticipation that Apple will introduce the latest gadget during WWDC followed by a swift launch.
