Quad Core HTC Edge Expected at MWC, Possibly With New Name

January 20th, 2012 by Caroline

As the excitement builds for next month’s MWC event in Barcelona, there are increasing rumours that HTC will take this opportunity to introduce its quad-core powerhouse of a device, the HTC Edge.

The quad-core HTC smartphone surfaced at the end of 2011 and more than one quad-core packed handsets are anticipated during MWC by some. Earlier this month, JPMorgan Chase upgraded HTC’s stock to “overweight”, in anticipation of this great release in February – adding that should an April launch happen, HTC would secure an advantage over its competitors.

And now the rumour mill is citing the date of 26th February as the day the Edge will make an appearance (thanks to AndroidCommunity for this latest leak).

Specs of the upcoming quad-core device include a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display, Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of internal space, 8-megapixel snapper, and Beats Audio technology.

There is, however, speculation on the name of the Edge. The guys over at PocketNow have word from a “trusted source” that HTC has altered the codename to Endeavour. It is also expected to be released with the new name of HTC Supreme. We could see either names working, as one (Edge) fits with market predictions about the impact an April launch would have on HTC while the other (Supreme) is in keeping with handset names such as the Sensation.

We’ll keep you posted on further rumours as MWC approaches. And if you thought that was as exciting as it gets, think again as it’s also thought that HTC will unveil the HTC Ville, the company’s slimmest phone ever. With a svelte 8mm frame and high-end features like Ice Cream Sandwich OS, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and Beats Audio, the Ville is expected to replace the HTC Sensation when it arrives.

What are you hoping HTC introduces during MWC 2012?
