Top Android Phones of 2012

January 16th, 2012 by Caroline

It may seem like only yesterday that Best Mobile Contracts published its Top Phones of 2011 – however, although we’re only a couple of weeks into this New Year, there have already been a number of Android phones launched.

So how will these Android devices compete with other smartphones on the market?

Very nicely, is our hunch, based on a mix of top-notch features, pricing and contemporary designs.

Sony Xperia S

Unveiled during CES, the Xperia S is the first handset in Sony’s next-generation range and sports a cool design with desirable features. On the outside is a 4.3-inch HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine and Gorilla Glass protection, and a transparent strip along the base of the screen. And on the inside, you can expect a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 12-megapixel camera with Exmor R technology and Fastest Capture function, NFC support and Gingerbread software that is upgradable to ICS shortly.

LG Prada 3.0

This one is especially for the followers of fashion, as this trendy smartphone offers a svelte frame and quality innards. With a super-bright 800-nit 4.3-inch display, the LG Prada 3.0 looks the part and whizzes along nicely too thanks to its dual-core 1GHz chip. This latest creation from the LG-Prada partnership is now available on pre-order, if its cool credentials are what you look for in a mobile.

Huawei Ascend P1 S

Described as the world’s slimmest smartphone, Huawei’s latest flagship phone was introduced during CES and boasts a 6.68mm slender frame. Its features match its impressively thin design too, as the Ascend P1 S packs quite a punch – 8-megapixel main camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, and Ice Cream Sandwich software, no less.

Motorola MOTOLUXE

Announced in early January, the Motorola MOTOLUXE is a slim smartphone with an edge-to-edge 4-inch display and lanyard slot that lights up when you receive a message or missed call. Inside there is a high-end 8-megapixel snapper and front-facing VGA camera for video calling.

Huawei Honor

When officially introduced at the end of last year, it looked like the Honor was set to be Huawei’s flagship phone of 2012. However, it now sits alongside the Ascend P1 S model and although it is not quite as powerful as this handset, the Huawei Honor still packs a decent punch. The phone has a 4-inch display, 1.4GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 1900mAh battery.

Motorola Defy Mini

This tough little smartphone from Motorola boasts a long-lasting battery too, making it ideal for holidays, trips to the seaside – as well as everyday life. The 3.2-inch display is Gorilla Glass protected and the handset is designed to be dust and water resistant also. Its 1650mAh battery supports up to 10 hours of talk time or 21 days on standby.

Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus

Affordable and running on Android Gingerbread OS, the Galaxy Ace Plus is a worthy successor to the original Ace phone, with enhancements including a larger 3.65-inch display and faster processor.
