Nokia‘s 2010 success story was the N8, a phone that was popular largely for its impressive 12 megapixel camera. This camera not only rivals many standalone digital cameras but has also been used to make the largest stop motion animation ever produced. Two years on and there are not many phones that have really put this camera to shame.
In the last 12 months Nokia has been placing a lot of efforts into its new Lumia range of Windows Phones. One of the reasons that many N8 owners have not switched to the new Lumia phones is their comparatively bog standard cameras. The Lumia 800 does not have a bad camera but compared to the competition, and compared to the N8, it is nothing special.
In a teaser video released by Nokia on YouTube the company suggests a return to form with the Nokia 808 PureView Symbian phone that will feature a camera that will outperform even the N8. No details are yet available about the camera but considering that this promotional teaser places all of its emphasis on the camera we reckon it will be fairly impressive.
Mobile World Congress will begin in just 5 days on February 27th, when we will get a chance to look at the PureView and its camera in closer detail.
