Acer beTouch E101 deals on contract

Acer beTouch E101 deals
The Taiwanese computer maker Acer is following the trend of other computer makers like HP, Dell and Asus taking on the mobile phone giants with upscale handsets inspired by the stellar landmark entry of Cupertino based Apple with iPhone

Now, if only they can come up with anything close to the iPhone. Rather, they now have various models that aim to eat more markets from the Big Fives. Acer has its Android and Windows smartphones aimed squarely at dislodging compatriot HTC from the smartphone landscape.

You get Liquid, beTouch and neoTouch smartphones that sport the monolithic body styling that now enjoy significant market following. The Acer beTouch E101 also known as the Acer E1 in other markets and is another exquisite Windows Mobile smartphone to beef up Acer’s stable of growing Windows smartphones ever since it entered the mobile phone business in 2009.

But rather than competing with its other upscale smartphones, the new E101 gets less endowed and is clearly an affordable handset pitched to the lower end of the smartphone markets.

Affordability in a Windows Smartphone

Acer handsets are affordable on their own, but the beTouch E101 take it a step lower with a set of features that define affordable smartphone category in the Acer stable. For starters, the E101 gets no 3G and no WiFi. It’s just your basic quad band GPS radio with class 10 GPRS/EDGE speeds up to 236.8 Kbps on the 2g networks allowing unhampered international roaming.

Its local high speed data connectivity options include Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and miniUSB 2.0. It still gets a reasonably powerful 538 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor needed to run the Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro for acceptably response speeds. You also get an integrated GPS receiver with A-GPS support

Display gets an average 3.2-inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen with Wide-QVGA resolution and 65k colors constrained by the Windows OS incapable of supporting beyond 65k. Imaging is likewise outdated with a mere 2-megapixel fixed focus camera with QVGA video recording at 15fps.

Entertainment gets no FM radio but you get playback support for popular audio and video file formats out there. It sports no 3.5mm audio jack but your get wireless stereo support from its A2DP profile on Bluetooth.

Onboard memory on the Acer beTouch E101 is limited to 256MB RAM and 512MB RAM needed to run the Windows OS properly and you also get practically unlimited phonebook entries, call records and SMS texts.

You also get microSD memory expandability up to 16 GB. Talk times and standby times from its 1140 mAh li-ion battery only yield 5 ours and 400 hours, respectively, when fully charged.
