HTC Smart deals on contract

HTC Smart deals

It’s a smartphone, isn’t it?   No it’s not. But it has an OS called BREW. Yes but it’s one of the runtime OS that can’t qualify as a true OS the way it does on a PC.   It’s the same runtime OS found in dumb phones as even dumb phones need an operating platform. Ok, but it has HTC Sense user interface found on its Android and Windows Mobile phones. We give up.

It doesn’t matter. The new HTC Smart is meant for people who want a handset that looks and feels like a smartphone minus the bank-breaking price tag. The Taiwan-based leader in smartphones after Nokia seems to come up with the right solution. HTC has imbued a smartphone with a minimalist 300 MHz processor running the runtime BREW OS that will keep the price down and still behave like a smartphone.

Taking Out Some Frills

This is one smart looking mobile phone sporting the touchscreen monolithic form factor with a large 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen typical of many upscale high-spec smartphones. It just has QVGA resolution and 256 colors with the usual gravity accelerometer we’ve come to expect on touchscreen handsets, smart or not.

Apart from its rather modest processor and OS, the new Smart gets a rather average feature set to get close to its target level of affordability. In addition, HTC has taken out WiFi so you can’t surf in hotspots. There’s also no GPS so you get not even a bare SatNav functionality.

The new HTC Smart is a 3G phone on a single band UMTS with 3.6 Mbps HSDPA only, but that’s fast enough for your downloading needs. It’s also a quad band GSM with class 10 GPRS/EDGE on 2G for international roaming. Local connectivity comes with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP for wireless data synching with other Bluetooth devices and mini USB 2.0 for wired data transfers.

It has an average imaging capability from a 3 megapixel fixed focus camera with LED flash.   Multimedia comes with the usual playback support for popular audio and video file codecs, a stereo FM radio with RDS, speakerphone and headphone listening using its 3.5mm audio jack or its A2DP support for going wireless stereo earphones.

You get a decent phone memory storage consisting of 256 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM with up to 1,000 phonebook entries with Photocall facility. Your multimedia files are better off using a microSD card for up to 16 GB memory expansion capability. It has an 1100 mAh Li –Ion battery to keep you talking up to 7 hours on GSM and up to 19 days on standby.

Taiwanese manufacturer HTC is considered to be one of the most prolific phone manufacturers this year and with several handsets with their brand already out, it is not surprising. While other phone manufacturers such as Samsung and LG have also produced plenty of devices, HTC has the largest number of high end smart phones available. It is quite easy to see that HTC has been supporting the Google Android operating system, from the establishmen...

HTC is a company that has always concentrated on releasing smartphones, and as such the Smart marks a noticeable deviation from this trend. Some people have already referred to the Smart as HTC's first 'dumbphone' as it is their first release to not make use of a smartphone OS. HTC has typically focused on using Windows Mobile and Android operating systems for its mobile phones, such as the HD2 and the Hero, but for the Smart HTC has ins...

It has been a few weeks since the HTC Touch.B’s first pictures came out. Many immediately assumed that the device was HTC’s latest Android smart phone; but a closer inspection of the images showed that it the device’s button lay-out was not suited for the Google OS. Images showed that the face of the device lacked the much needed back button. It was not soon after that later reports showed that the HTC Touch.B would be using the Brew operat...
