Korea’s number two mobile phone maker LG Electronics is positioning the Bali as another affordable touchscreen monolith that shares the same hardware specs as the GT505 but without 3G and SatNav functionality.

This deletion gives it better affordability and squares with LG’s eye towards a wider market as it combines the essential features of a basic mobile communications device with some of the fineries we’ve come to expect from these gadgets, particularly its high end camera features. One can look at the Bali which only comes in black as an affordable camera phone that’s a notch or two above the rest in its class.

This is a quad band GSM allowing for international roaming on the 2G network. It has no 3G but you get up to 48 Kbps of class 10 GPRS/EDGE speeds which can be good enough for emailing and occasional browsing online. If you want faster speeds, there’s WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspot internet surfing at 54 Mbps speeds.

The LG GM360 Bali gets a 3-inch LCD TFT resistive touchscreen display with Wide-QVGA resolution and 256k colors. There’s the usual gravity accelerometer for UI auto rotate viewing in either landscape of portrait orientation depending on handset tilt. You get an upscale 5-megapixel shooter with autofocus and LED flash.

Multimedia gets an MP3/MP4 media players, an FM stereo radio, speakerphones and Bluetooth A2DP support for wireless stereo earphone listening. It has no 3.5mm headphone jack. It has a decent 60 MB internal memory expandable up to 8 GB using its microSD expansion slot. It is powered be a standard 1,000 mAh Li-Ion battery for up to 7 hours of talk time on a single charge.

Though not a smartphone, its homescreen shows an S-Class user interface ported on its runtime platform and gets preloaded with games, a WAP 2.0 HTML browser, Email and Push Email client apps including a document viewer for PDF and popular MS Office files.
