Korea´s second largest mobile phone maker LG Electronics positions its LG GM730 Eigen as an affordable mid-range smartphone that has all the major data connectivity options mixed with decent specs the market has come to expect from upscale smartphones.

Though, at closer look, it also compromises on many of the same features the market has taken for granted in smartphones like A2DP, 3.5mm headphone jack and geo tagging of images, among others.

Affordable but Superb Features

Measuring a relatively thin 109.8 x 56.5 x 11.9mm full touchscreen monolithic form factor, the Eigen is a tri band UMTS on 3G with HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA at 2 Mbps for fast internet browsing and downloading on a 3G data plan.

It is also a tri band GSM which will make its international roaming limited. It comes with 2G data connectivity with GPRS/EDGE speeds. It has WiFi 802.11b/g for hotspot surfing at 54 Mbps as well as Bluetooth 2.0 and microUSB 2.0 support for wireless and wired local data connectivity options, respectively. It also gets an integrated GPS with A-GPS for SatNav functionality.

You get a decent display typical of emerging affordable touchscreens with a 3-inch TFT LCD resistive touchscreen with Wide QVGA resolution and 65k colors. Its Widows Mobile 6.5 OS gets customized with the proprietary LG S-Class Touch user interface. It gets preloaded with an Internet Explorer 6.0 HTML browser as well as the Pocket Office Suite, IM and email client support.

The handset gets powered by a modest Qualcomm MSM7201A processor clocked at 528 MHz to deliver its multimedia functions that benefit from a monaural FM radio and a simplified media player for video files in the MP4/H.263/H.264 content format and audio files in the MP3/AAC/AAC+/WMA content format.

There’s a speaker phone but no 3.5mm headphone jack which means it has a proprietary headphone using its miniUSB as jack. No specification is found to support that it has A2DP profile for wireless stereo earphone support.

Imaging gets a decent 5 megapixel camera using Schneider-Kreuznach optics with autofocus but no flash and no geo tagging despite having a GPS receiver. It does, however, support 3G video call with a secondary front facing camera.

Internal memory comes with practically unlimited phonebook entries and fields as well as call records and benefits your multimedia files with microSD external memory expandability for up to 16 GB. There’s a 1,000 mAh li-ion battery and is SAR rated at 1.14 watts per kilo.

New phones are being released constantly and if you ask any mobile phone expert, the race to create the best phone is going to get grittier and more exciting as each new device brings an innovation or design concept that pushes the standards. The LG GM730 concentrates more on its external design than its internal features. This is not to say that the mobile phone is substantially weaker in terms of hardware, the GM730 still packs some solid smart phone power under that stylishly cute exterior. Cute is a word often associated with small novelty phones that focus more on novelty than function, t...
LG, the second largest Korean mobile phone maker after Samsung, is launching its new Windows-based LG GM730.  It is a real Apple iPhone look-alike with a slim 109.8 x 56.5 x 11.9 mm dimension on classy touchscreen body one can easily mistake as a fashion phone.  But the LG handset is definitely more than that – with sophisticated features that should appeal to the business market that wanted the most advanced features to keep them working and staying in touch in the office while making an upscale statement on the road. Advance Features for the Upscale Business Crowd After its debut in th...
Most people might be a little fazed at the slightly low end specs being offered with the LG GM730. This is understandable since most mobile phones these days are pretty much packed to the brim with fast processors and high resolution touch screens. But this is a phone that is built on fundamental aspects of design. This is not a model for everyone, but there is certainly a large enough crowd out there who would enjoy having this pretty looking mobile phone. After all, not many phones these days are as impressive to look at as the GM730. With touch screen phones all looking the same, this on...
Just recently released this August, 6 months after it was announced in the last Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last February, the LG GM730 comes to European markets after a lot of online speculation and guesswork. The sleek new handset from Korean LG can be mistaken as an elegant fashion phone that looks like the Apple iPhone at first glance, but its upscale feature set is aimed at the high end business and corporate crowd tired for the staid Blackberrys. High End Smartphone Features The LG GM730 is a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and a tri-band UMTS with 3G/HSDPA/HSUPA high speed data con...
