The LG Town C300 is built with young social networkers in mind, and it fulfills this purpose well. The phone features dedicated Facebook and Twitter widgets, as well as email and instant messaging via MSN.
The QWERTY keypad is a satisfying alternative to on-screen typing, which makes messaging and tweeting simple, and makes staying connected on the move as easy as you could ever wish.
In a word or two
A budget QWERTY keyboard equipped handset with integrated features for social networking.
The Design
The LG Town C300 is the second in the Town series from LG and features a somewhat different design to that of its predecessor, the GT350, which featured a slide out QWERTY keyboard combined with a 3-inch touchscreen. The C300 employs a portrait-style QWERTY keyboard situated below a smaller, 2.4 inch screen. This design form draws inevitable comparisons to Blackberry handsets, and while these are certainly justified the C300 also has the curved look that’s distinctive to LG and likely to appeal to a younger crowd than Blackberry’s traditionally business focused users. The handset is available in both black and white, both with red highlighting on edges and keys.
LG Town C300 Specifications
Like the GT350, the C300 is firmly focused on social networking integration and features. The latest updates from Facebook or Twitter are downloaded and displayed to users on the home page with dedicated widgets. The phone also supports push email, providing users with updates to their email inbox, and instant messaging services like MSN.
The C300 has support for GPRS, Bluetooth and EDGE, but has no WiFi support. The 2 megapixel camera is basic by modern standards, but sufficient for the social networking purposes which most of this phone’s features are geared towards. The integrated social networking services of the phone allow users to upload their photos easily.
A built in FM radio and MP3 player are included in the C300, and a 3.5mm headphone jack is a great and simple addition that’s often absent even on many high end handsets. Storage for music is well provided for with microSD card support.
Considerations
With WiFi and 3G absent, people looking for a handset for serious web browsing (outside of social networking sites) might want to look elsewhere.
Verdict
The LG Town C300 is a budget handset that’s clearly aimed at the younger generation who have social networking on-the-move in mind. It isn’t, and doesn’t pretend to be, a super high-end smartphone but it’s excellent at the job it’s built for and a good choice for budget conscious social networkers.
