Why compare with us?

Because of its popularity, social networking really seems to be at every mobile phone manufacturer’s list. From apps to widgets to dedicated social networking mobile phones, the trend is definitely infectious. That being said, Motorola has made a social networking phone that is worthy of praise in the form of its square FLIPOUT.

The Motorola FLIPOUT is cleverly designed. It is curiously square shaped with a swiveling QWERTY keyboard. This definitely gives it a fresh, modern feel which is definitely eye catching.

Dare to be Square

The quadratic mobile phone has three distinct colors to suit your mood. A classic black casing is included as well as a refreshingly vibrant green and a charming, bubbly pink. Despite its compact size and shape, the Motorola FLIPOUT is still able to pack in all the much needed buttons.

Its QWERTY keys are good to the touch, the spacing of the buttons are cleverly mapped out, needing only a slight effort to let your fingers travel from key to key. For those with thicker digits, there is no need to worry if you ever mistakenly press a key because of the built in T9 predictive text. This system will enable you to type worry-free by correcting your entries. If you enter a new word, it is also possible to store that into your mobile phone dictionary for future use.

Oh Sweet Android

To power up its social networking features, the Motorola FLIPOUT sports the Google Android operating system. The Android packed into the device is Éclair version 2.1, which makes for an ideal and reliable OS when partnered with the FLIPOUT’s efficient 700 MHz processor (TI OMAP3410). On top of the sweet operating system, the mobile phone is sporting the equally tempting Motorola BLUR version 1.5 user interface which supports Live Widgets.

The FLIPOUT carries a 2.8-inch TFT touch screen which is able to show vivid colors under a variety of lighting conditions. Being square, it has a resolution of 320 by 320 pixels and is able to display up to a maximum of 256 thousand colors. There is a provision for UI auto adjustment and rotation with the inclusion of the built in accelerometer.

For messaging features, it supports SMS, MMS, AMS, IM as well as email and push email. It uses a WAP 2.0 browser which is compatible with both HTML and xHTML for all your web surfing needs.

Fun Times All Around

There is definitely a fun side to the bubbly Motorola FLIPOUT. Social networking is of course the intended primary use of the FLIPOUT and so it carries apps for Facebook, Twitter and MySpace to keep social networking fans happy. It being an Android device, there is support for Google Maps (Street View) as well.

An impressive 3.15 megapixel camera (2048 x 1536 pixel resolution) is included as well. As a bonus, it can also be used to capture video clips. The built in media player can read the MP3, WAV and eAAC+ audio formats and MP4, H.263 and H.264 video formats.
