The popular slider form factor finds its adoption in the Nokia 6700 Slide adding another variant to the 6700 line of smartphones that already has the candybar classic line as an 18k gold edition. The slide further cements its popularity to gain newer markets that want the slider form on their smartphones.

Features at a Glance

Apart from the form factor and a body weighing 110g and measuring 95.2 x 46.1 x 15.9 mm, the 6700 feature phone carries about the same features as its 6700 Classic candybar brother with a few notable exceptions.
  • It’s the same quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) radio with class 32 GPRS/EDGE data speeds on 2G and is also a tri band UMTS (900/1900/2100) with a US version at (850/190/2100) and comes with HSDPA at 10 Mbps and HSDPA at 2 Mbps on 3G for fast downloading and surfing online. There’s likewise no WiFi but you get the same local high speed data connectivity with Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and microUSB 2.0 for the wireless and wired options, respectively.
  • Its display gets the same smallish 2.2” TFT LCD screen with QVGA resolution and 16 million colors but without the gravity accelerometer and ambient light sensors of its brother.
  • Imaging feature gets the same 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, LED flash, 4X digital zoom and VGA video recording at 15fps. This time, it gets a secondary front facing QCIF video call camera that the neither the classic or gold edition has.
  • Entertainment comes with the media players for a wider range of file support than the classic supports such as MP3/WAV/RA/eAAC+/WMA/M4A audio files and WMV/RV/MP4/3GP video files. It gets a monaural FM radio with no RDS while the classic gets stereo with RDS. Stereo listening gets Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP for wireless stereo earphones but you get a mini 2.5mm jack for wired headsets.
  • There’s a smaller 45 MB phone memory but you still get microSD memory expandability for up to 16 GB with a free 2 GB microSD card bundled with the retail kit.
  • Its smaller 860 mAh li-ion battery delivers only 4 hours of talk time on 2G with up to 29 hours of uninterrupted music playback time and a standby time of up to 250 hours.

The Nokia 6700 Slide runs on the Symbian S60 3.2 where the classic get the S40 6th edition. There’s Nokia Maps pre-installed as well as Ovi Store access and Adobe Flash Lite 3.0 support.
