The Nokia 7230 is a fun slide-phone with a cute design and a typically excellent user interface, primarily made for entertainment and communication.

The phone’s speedy 3G connection makes social networking easy, and users can stay in touch with SMS, email and instant messaging services. With a 3.2MP camera and a good music player to boot, the 7230 is sure to appeal to those looking for big features on a small budget.

In a word or two

The Nokia 7230 is a fun slider phone designed predominantly for entertainment and social networking.

The Design

Rounded and small, the Nokia 7230 slider mobile is ideal for taking with you wherever you go as it will slip effortlessly into most pockets. The simple design makes this phone appealing with a 2.4 inch screen framed in graphite or hot pink, depending on your preference, and a metal-style edging on the curved corners. Its size ensures it is comfortable to hold in one hand both when the slide-down keypad is open and closed.

The majority of the keys are on the slide-down keypad and only minimal keys are on the front of the Nokia 7230 including the large square navigation key. All the buttons on the keypad are large and nicely spaced for user-friendly typing and dialling.

Specifications

The Nokia 7230 slider phone is designed for entertainment and communication and is one of the two new 3G slider phones introduced by Nokia alongside the 6700 Slide. There is support for various social networking sites like Facebook, Flickr and Twitter which can all be accessed from the home screen. There are games pre-loaded onto the 7230 including Snake III and Sudoku II, with the option to download extra ones – the Nokia Ovi Store has a good range.

Being a Nokia ensures the 7230 is straightforward to use. Nokia Messaging will support you as you set up your email accounts on the phone so you can access the likes of Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo, or you can get a free email account from Ovi Mail. Whichever option you choose, you can then synchronise your mobile with your PC for both contacts and calendar so you stay organised.

In addition to social networking and email, the Nokia 7230 supports text, multimedia messages, and instant messaging via GoogleTalk and WindowsLive. And you need never miss a message again as the 7230 lights up every time you receive a new call, email or text.

The camera on the Nokia 7230 is decent with 3.2-megapixels and a 4x digital zoom. The dedicated capture key makes taking pictures undemanding and you can shoot from a vertical or horizontal position according to your subject. There is also a video option and you can upload photos and video footage directly from your phone to YouTube and Facebook.

To make sure you keep boredom at bay, the Nokia 7230 also has a music player and FM radio for your entertainment. You can download tracks from the Nokia Music Store and store songs on your phone. Thanks to the 45MB internal memory and 2GB memory card that comes with the phone with capacity for up to 16GB, you should have no shortage of space.

Considerations

The phone looks good although you could argue it is not the most exciting handset on the market – the design is simple but the features are effective.

Verdict

The Nokia 7230 is a low-cost mobile phone which is perfect for its target audience with some fun features and user-friendly interface.
