The Nokia C1-02 is Nokia’s middle C1 handset, which features a bit more than just the basics but remains true to the simplistic practicality of other models in the range.
The phone’s 2G connection makes browsing the web and checking emails easy, and at 77.5g the handset’s trim build will ensure it’s never a chore to carry around. While the C1-02’s lack of camera might put some users off, it still offers great value as a communication device.
In a word or two
The Nokia C1-02 is an inexpensive phone intended for straightforward communication from a no-nonsense, reliable handset that also benefits from a number of inbuilt features and abilities.
The Design
The classic characteristics of a Nokia device are all present in the Nokia C1-02. From the curved edges to the easy-to-use layout, the 5-way navigation key to the clear 1.8 inch screen, the C1-02 has been designed for quick and easy use. With what Nokia describes as a functional design, there are also shortcut keys on the handset for even more direct access to certain features of the phone.
Launched alongside the C1-00 and C1-01, the Nokia C1-02 sits in the middle of this C1 range in terms of ability and price. Although this phone doesn’t have the dual SIM design that the C1-00 shares with the C2, the C1-02 does benefit from a classic look and numerous connection means.
In keeping with the C1 handsets, the C1-02 is trim and weighs just 77.5g. This enables you to carry the phone with you, wherever you go. And while this device doesn’t compare to smartphones like the iPhone 4 – not least because it’s aiming for a completely different audience – having a compact design is always appreciated, from the cheapest to the most extravagant, as having a mobile that is in fact, mobile, is a great feature.
Specifications
The 2G Nokia C1-02 gives you access to the internet using GPRS connectivity. While this won’t be rapid, this lets you browse online when you want to, for fun or practical reasons. As well as a web browser, the C1-02 also features Nokia’s Ovi apps including Life Tools (in certain markets), Ovi Chat and Ovi Mail. So you can chat online with friends and send emails too.
There is also Bluetooth connection on the Nokia C1-02 which enables sharing with friends who also have Bluetooth-enabled phones. You can share songs via Bluetooth or use this support to listen to music on wireless headphones. There is a 3.5mm audio connector so you can plug in your own earphones to listen to music or the inbuilt FM radio. And if you’re a fan of the radio, you’ll appreciate the FM recording function. You can record straight from the radio onto your C1-02 – and keeping these programmes, as well as your own music, on your phone is fairly effortless thanks to the expandable memory of up to 32GB via a microSD card.
For those quieter moments, there are games pre-loaded on the Nokia C1-02 to keep you entertained on the move.
Considerations
Like the C1-00, there is no camera onboard the Nokia C1-02.
Verdict
For keeping in touch with your world via SMS, MMS, email and instant messaging, together with a friendly interface and design, you might be tempted by the Nokia C1-02. Combine this with a budget-friendly price, and the C1-02 adds up to a smart, budget device, especially if communication is more important to you than features.
