The most advanced model in Nokia’s recent C-series, the Nokia C2 is a light and attractive phone with dual SIM capacity that will prove useful for business and travel.
Not only can the C2 store two active SIM cards at once, but the secondary card can be replaced at the press of a button while the phone remains switched on – a big improvement on the cheaper dual SIM phone, the C1-00.
In a word or two
The Nokia C2 is a neat handset that can support two SIM cards simultaneously.
The Design
The Nokia C2 is an elegantly designed candybar-style phone that resembles the C1-01 in looks. Slim and light (74g), it is the most advanced of the recent C-series handsets Nokia has launched – the C1-00, C1-01 and the C1-02. All four phones have been created for phone users in developing countries and are intended to offer a lot for a very little.
Nokia has unveiled in the C2 and, to a lesser degree the C1-00, the first phone of its kind that supports two SIM cards. As a dual SIM phone, you can have two separate numbers on the one handset – and unlike the cheaper C1-00 model which needs you to manually change between the two cards, the C2 keeps both SIMs active. The first SIM card sits underneath the battery and the second card is hot-swappable, meaning you can remove and insert it even when the phone is on. Considering this ability, the sleek design is all the more impressive.
The Nokia C2 is easy to use as a result of the 1.8 inch colour display and logical key layout. You can select your phone in a range of different colours spanning dynamic grey, jet black, magenta, dark blue, and snow white.
Specifications
As mentioned in the phone’s design, the main feature of the Nokia C2 is its dual SIM ability. And that you can use both SIM cards at once. We are pretty impressed with the fact you can buy a dual SIM phone that lets you switch between cards with a simple press and hold of a key, and so cheaply, in the C1-00 model – but for a small amount more you can get this advanced dual SIM handset.
Calls and test messages can come to either number when the C2 is on, so you can use the handset for both work and social purposes. You can even answer a call on one number while you keep another call on hold on the second number. And in addition to all these possibilities is the real option to share the handset with a family member or even work colleague – and neither party would need to miss a call or a message as both SIMs would be on at all times.
Aside from the dual SIM aspect, the Nokia C2 also provides internet access and the ability to stay in touch with friends through email and instant messaging, as well as the more traditional text messages and calls. The VGA camera means you can take snaps on the move too, and the music player enables storage of your songs – to keep photos and tracks on your C2, you can use a microSD card to increase the memory to up to 32GB. And there is an FM radio option too plus FM recording so you can record and save music or radio shows on your phone.
Considerations
All the features on the Nokia C2 are basic and there is no 3G or Wi-Fi support.
Verdict
With the Nokia C2, Nokia is bringing simple technology to the masses. Regardless of budget, the C2 lets you surf the web, take snaps on your phone which you can share via Bluetooth or microUSB, communicate with friends and listen to music – and you get the great addition of dual SIM ability. This feature enhances the phone and makes it a great choice for an affordable handset, especially if you want to share with family or make the most of certain call charges.
