The Nokia X6 8GB delivers the same high-end design, features and experience as you’d expect – but for a smaller cost.

The Design

Looking at the Nokia X6 8GB, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d seen this handset someplace before. And you have – in the X6 model, and X6 16GB version. Similar to Apple and its iPhones which are released in two different versions, the 16GB and the 32GB, including for the latest iPhone 4, Nokia has released its popular X6 phone with various memory capacity.

The idea behind the Nokia X6 8GB is you receive the same high quality music and entertainment mobile experience but a smaller memory and for a smaller amount. Sounds like a fair trade-off to us as 8GB still provides ample storage space for music, video, photos and contacts.

Sporting the same compact frame as the original X6, the Nokia X6 8GB is effortless to carry around and allows you to maximise all its abilities on the move. The 3.2 inch capacitive screen supports 16 million colours and is capable of displaying images and web pages with a vibrancy and sharpness you’ll appreciate. And using capacitive technology ensures quick responses to your finger presses. The screen is scratch-resistant too so you can keep it pristine for longer.

You can personalise the home screen on the phone, adding shortcuts to your favourite apps and websites. The music widget is on the home screen, giving you an easy way to control your music directly. Even the background themes can be changed – and the case itself comes in 3 different colours, azure, amethyst and black.

The Nokia X6 8GB runs on Nokia’s Symbian OS and is powered by a capable 434MHz processor, keeping things moving swiftly for you so you can enjoy the features all the more. Accessing the internet and social networking sites is supported by the range of connectivity that includes 3G and Wi-Fi, and by the integration that includes linking updates with each contact. When you click on a friend’s contact, you can send a text directly, view updates or select a picture.

Pictures are a highlight on this X6 as the phone comes with a 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, dual LED flash and video which features a video light. You can capture stunning images on this handset, and the X6 8GB has software for editing photos and footage should you want to brush-up any. Whether you view onscreen, use the TV-out option to see images on the TV, or share online using the Media Bar, this phone makes photography fun and impressive.

Naturally, the Nokia X6 8GB is mainly a music phone and it excels in this arena. As well as an FM radio, there is an MP3 player where you can store all your music, sorting as you want into lists and genres. There is access to Nokia’s Music Store so you can easily browse and download extra tracks. And listening can be either through the inbuilt speakers or the 3.5mm audio connector – and the phone supports up to 35 hours of playback.

Verdict

The Nokia X6 8GB brings you everything you’d expect from an X6 device except with a smaller memory. If you’re happy to exchange a restricted memory for a cheaper price, then all the music, navigation, social networking, and media features will be yours to enjoy on this high-end smartphone.
