The Samsung Solid Immerse is exactly that: solid. Water-proof, dust-proof and shock resistant, its durable urethane casing is in fact IP67 certified. On being held underwater for 30 minutes, it has been shown to sustain no damage whatsoever.

Part of Samsung´s rugged range of phones the Solid Immerse offers up a wide range of entertainment features to go along with its more durable specifications. As far as rugged phones go the Solid Immerse is about as rugged as they get being dust-proof, water-proof and just-about-everything-else-proof. It is IP67 certified for dust, water and shock resistance, and features a highly durable urethane casing.

Rugged phones are aimed at those who like to spend a lot of time outdoors or pursuing hobbies where there may be a lot of opportunities to break a less durable device. The Solid Immerse can be held 1 metre under water for 30 minutes without experiencing any damage and also features a scratch resistant 2" TFT display. This comes with a sharp resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and a high colour depth of 256k colours.

The Solid Immerse also comes with an altimeter for measuring your altitude, a digital compass and a flashlight that will both come in handy should you find yourself lost in the middle of a forest late at night.

Many rugged phones tend to cut back on other features but with the Solid Immerse this is not the case. There is an excellent media player with support for music and video and the 50MB internal memory can be expanded with microSD cards. The Solid Immerse is also one of the few rugged phones to come with social network integration with built-in Twitter and Facebook support. There is also an FM radio with RDS support so you can listen to the latest music or weather reports.

The Solid Immerse comes with web browsing support as well as RSS feeds and instant messaging clients such as Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger. SMS and EMS messages are supported and the Solid Immerse comes with GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth and USB support. There is also a 2 megapixel camera with QVGA video recording.

The Solid Immerse is a very durable phone and comes with a number of features that you will most likely find very convenient if you pursue activities that require you to get a rugged phone in the first place. The Solid Immerse also has the benefit of a number of excellent messaging and social networking features that are rarely found on handsets within this niche.
