When looking for a nifty phone on a budget, consider the Samsung C3510 Genoa. It features a 2.8 inch touchscreen and attractive design, with rounded corners and a sleek, black case. Unfortunately the screen is resistive rather than capacitive, so you'll need to push firmly for it to register your commands. But with such a low price tag, this is not a major criticism.

In fact, the Genoa is fully integrated for social networking, and you can assign notifications to your home page with ease. The 1.3MP camera isn't quite up to scratch, but it's another welcome addition to this surprisingly cheap handset.

In a word or two

A friendly budget mobile phone, the Samsung C3510 Genoa has sufficient features to keep you entertained.

The Design

Traditional bar-style in design, the Samsung C3510 Genoa has a large 2.8 inch touchscreen with a navigation button beneath and the keys to dial and end calls. Like the Samsung S3650 Genio, the Genoa has rounded corners which make it visually more attractive as well as more pleasant to hold as you type. In fact, the Samsung C3510 Genoa looks very like the S3650 phone although the black case cannot be swapped for “fashion jackets” and a couple of the features have been downgraded to ensure the smaller price tag.

The touchscreen on the Samsung C3510 Genoa is resistive which means you need to push slightly on the screen to register your command – unlike the capacitive screen on the S3650 which lets you lightly touch for a click. The screen on both the iPhone and iPhone 3G S are capacitive. However, considering how affordable the Samsung C3510 Genoa is, it is impressive the screen is touch-sensitive and as large as it is.

Specifications

Despite the low price, the Samsung C3510 Genoa – which is also known as the Samsung C3510 Corby Pop – is fully integrated for social networking. The user-friendly interface features icons for the popular networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, giving you one-click access. The status updates are displayed on the home screen and you can post your updates from here too.

The Samsung C3510 Genoa is also good for listening to music. With both an inbuilt speaker and a 3.5mm audio jack, you can listen out loud or privately on your mobile phone. The sound quality is high thanks to the DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) technology and your tunes will be played clearly and accurately. Storing tracks on your Genoa should be no problem too as you can increase the memory by using a microSD card up to 8GB. In addition, the USB connection allows you to transfer your music to and from your PC.

There is also an FM radio on the Samsung C3510 Genoa for listening choice. The FM radio has RDS support so you can read the information from the radio station while you listen.

The 1.3-megapixel camera on the phone may be basic but it is still a nice touch to find a camera on a budget mobile. You can capture friends and events easily on the Samsung C3510 Genoa, and then share them using the Communities application which makes uploading photos to sites like Flickr effortless.

Considerations

The Samsung C3510 Genoa has support for a web browser but the connection will not always be swift as there is no 3G option.

Verdict

The Samsung C3510 Genoa is a fun and friendly touchscreen mobile phone with a wallet-friendly price tag.
