Thought to be the cheapest Samsung touchscreen handset on the market, the Champ C3300 packs some pretty decent features. It boasts a resistive 2.4 inch screen and a sleek, curved design. It comes in a range of colours too - black, white, pink and brown - so you're spoiled for choice.
Multiple home screens allow you to download a variety of apps from the Samsung store, and social network integration streams notifications straight to you. The Champ also supports Java, so you'll never be at a loss for games. It doesn't support 3G or wi-fi, but for such a cheap device this is to be expected.
In a word or two
The Samsung Champ is an ultra-affordable touchscreen handset with some appealing abilities and apps onboard.
The Design
More compact than the Samsung S3650 Genio handset, the Samsung Champ is marginally thicker and has a smaller, 2.4 inch screen. An affordable version of this popular Samsung phone, the Champ’s screen is resistive rather than capacitive – and is in the same league as the Alcatel One Touch XTRA phone and the rumoured LG KS365.
Considering the Samsung Champ is thought to be the cheapest ever touchscreen mobile from Samsung, the handset looks good. The handset is curved with shortcut keys on the front for making and ending calls, and refreshing the screen. The back of the Champ is smooth and should make for comfortable holding as you press and swipe the screen.
You can choose between various colours for your Samsung Champ as it comes in brown, black, pink or white. When it comes to expressing your personality through your phone, it needn’t stop with the case as there are multiple home screens on the Champ which can be decorated according to your favourite apps and features.
Samsung Champ Specifications
The Samsung Champ offers you the core requirements that most phone users expect from a handset. You can send text messages, multimedia messages and emails on the move. And with social networking integration you can instantly access sites like Facebook with just one press.
There is TouchWiz Lite UI onboard, making the user experience that bit more interactive and fun. As well as adding and changing various apps on the home screens, the Champ has access to the Samsung App Store for browsing and downloading additional features and games. If you enjoy playing games on your phone, you’ll like the fact the Champ supports Java for Java-based gaming.
Other entertainment options include a music player and FM radio. There are speakerphones and a 3.5mm audio connector so you can listen to tracks out loud with friends or in private via your earphones. The Bluetooth and USB connections enable easy transfer of songs too and the internal memory can be boosted to up to 8GB with a microSD card.
The Champ’s camera may only boast 1.3-megapixels and a video, but for such a low-priced device having any camera onboard is always a bonus. While taking professional-standard pictures won’t be possible, you’ll be able to capture fun times with friends and family for storing on your phone or sharing via email, MMS or Bluetooth.
Considerations
The Samsung Champ does not support 3G or Wi-Fi so making the most of all the social networking features may be slow at times.
Verdict
Compact and light, the Samsung Champ looks ideal if you’re on a tight budget but still want a social networking-enabled device. The battery life is good too so you should be able to message on this phone for longer in between charges than on smartphones like the iPhone and Google Nexus One.
