Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus Review

Introduction

Sometimes, it can be hard to live up to your older sibling’s accolades. The Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, however, goes so far as to surpass the achievements its predecessor, the Galaxy Ace. With an updated operating system, the Galaxy Ace Plus runs on Android’s popular Gingerbread OS. This newer version of the Ace also comes with increased internal memory and an upgraded processor of 1GHz. Overall it might not meet the level of spec demanded by some smartphone users, but if you’re looking for a more affordable model that still has a lot of good features – particularly music-wise – then you can’t really go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus.

Design

In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus looks very similar to the iPhone 3GS, and is likely to appeal to those people who can’t afford an iPhone for themselves but enjoy the look and feel of one. The phone’s screen is bigger than the Plus at 3.65-inches, which is a reasonable size. In spite of this however, the screen is let down by a poor resolution of just 320x480 pixels. Fine for normal phone usage, though you’ll notice a real difference when you try and browse the internet – most sites will need you to zoom substantially, which can leave the screen looking rather fuzzy.

Features

Considering the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus is an affordable phone, it’s packed with a fair few features to get you excited – especially when it comes to music. Coming with an impressive 3GB of internal storage, and the ability to upgrade this to 32GB with a SD card, you can use the phone’s music player to blast your fave MP3s on the way to work. Also armed with a FM radio, it ensures you’ll never be bored on public transport again. For those who like to take photographs on the go, the Ace Plus comes with a 5MP camera that’s perfectly capable in most settings. Then just use the phone’s 3G connectivity to upload the pix straight to Facebook.

Performance

Somewhat disappointingly, the Galaxy Ace Plus comes with a slightly smaller battery than its predecessor at 1.300mAh, but this is more than likely to last as much as your normal smartphone – expect to have to charge it every night.

Usability

As with all Android phones, the Galaxy Ace Plus comes with the Android OS, in this case the Gingerbread system. Famed for its powerful easy-to-use operating system, you have access to highly customisable home pages, integrated Google maps and integrated Gmail. And being a Samsung, the phone comes with its own interface called TouchWiz that is also very simple to use.

Also Consider

If you’re looking for a similar budget smartphone then you couldn’t go far wrong with the earlier Galaxy Ace – sure it might be a little more dated, but for a cheaper price you’ll get essentially the same phone. The HTC Trophy 7 is another good touchscreen choice. This phone comes with an impressive 8GB of internal storage and 576MB of RAM.
