Though Samsung’s own Bada operating system is making waves on its own, there is no doubt that the ‘Droid is still a darling of the mobile phone industry. That being said, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo (i5801) carries a Google Android version 2.1 operating system (Éclair). It sports much of what makes Samsung phones appealing to many consumers such as the company’s signature TouchWiz interface and an impressive line of specs.

Wi-Fi compatibility is always a plus for mobile phones, particularly midrange lines that are meant to be used as a main handset. That being said, you can enjoy endless hours on the web using the Apollo since it has support for the budget friendly connectivity feature.

GPS, Bluetooth and a 3.15 megapixel camera are all mixed in to ensure that, no matter where you are, the Apollo is up to the task of keeping you connected and entertained.

High-end Design

Samsung has always been recognized for their topnotch designs. As a part of the Galaxy family, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo (i5801) is available in two colors. There is black for those looking for a familiar color choice and white for those who want a more feminine variation.

The Apollo’s 3.2 inch TFT capacitive touch screen is quite superb. Made of WVGA AMOLED, the screen is able to display vibrant 240 × 400 resolution images. The built in accelerometer is used to rotate the UI automatically to either a portrait or a landscape orientation. Automatic switch off is also standard using the mobile phone’s proximity sensor.

Because of Samsung’s high end display, multi-touch input is possible, making for quick messaging. With its user friendly TouchWiz UI, personalization is supported so you can enjoy operating your mobile phone every time.

Flexible Connectivity

The Samsung Galaxy Apollo (i5801) is compatible with a number of networks, giving users the freedom to choose how to contact their friends and family. 2G GSM (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 frequencies), 3G HSDPA (900 and 2100 frequencies) and EDGE are supported, enabling stable connections no matter where you are.

For wireless headsets, Bluetooth version 2.0 with A2DP is supported and microUSB version 2.0 compatibility is also present for fast data transfers.

Threaded messaging helps you keep track of all your running messages. If texting just does not cut it, MMS, Push Mail and IM messaging is also available for you to utilize.

Lastly, being an Android device, the powerful Google suite helps you manage your time. Look up the nearest restaurant via Google Maps, send documents with ease through a Gmail account and look up that new product through Google Search.

Problem-free Snapshots

The Samsung Galaxy Apollo (i5801) is able to take beautiful stills with the use of its 3.15 megapixel camera. Able to take pictures with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, it makes use of an autofocus system, as well as motion and face detection to ensure that you get only the highest quality photos.

A 1 GB microSD card is already included in the package but you can opt to expand the memory up to 32 GB.
