Samsung S3550 Shark 3 deals

The world’s second largest mobile phone maker Samsung is completing its Shark line for feature phones with the third Samsung S3550 Shark 3. One might easily think this is the top gun in the shark family but actually is at par with the first Shark and as a slider feature occupies the middle in terms of feature sophistication.

Available only in black, the S3550 has the potential to be another hit among Samsung handset followers with a no-nonsense set of features that while unimaginative still defines what a capable and affordable slider feature phone should be.

Entry Level Features

The Shark 3 is just a 2G phone on the quad band GSM radio with 10 GPRS and EDGE speeds. There’s no 3G, no WiFi and no GPS-based SatNav features. It measures a compact 95.8 x 45.8 x 14.4mm and weighing a light pocket-friendly 79g, among the lightest handset anywhere.
You still get Bluetooth 2.1 for wireless high speed data transfers and USB 2.0 for a wired data transfer option. But there are no pretenses to this phone other than being a competent entry level handset to carry on the Samsung tradition of great value feature phones.

The Samsung S3550 Shark 3 comes with a smallish 2-inch TFT LCD display with QVGA resolution and 256k color depth which can be fairly typical of what you can find in budget entry level handsets. Imaging is also rudimentary with a conventional and relatively outdated 2-megapixel fixed focus camera with a non-descript video recording.

Multimedia gets the usual video and audio media players that support the popular media format codecs. You also get stereo FM with RDS and a stand-out proprietary DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) for stereo widening, surround and bass boost and wireless stereo listening with its A2DP support.

Phone memory is a bit stingy at a mere 35 MB expandable to 8 GB with its microSD slot. No reason why it can read and write on a 16 GB microSD card though. It 800 mAh Li-Ion battery can get you up to 7.5 hours of talk time and 19 days of standby time on a single full charge.

The phone is a social animal with SNS apps for instant access and live updating of your social networking sites like Facebook Bebo and MySpace. Despite not having SatNav features, you get Google Maps pre-bundled along with a Mobile Tracker facility so it can be traced when lost or stolen, as well as the usual WAP enabled HTML browser, IM support and email client apps.
