Preview Summary:Samsung Wave 723 3.5

Unlike the original Samsung Wave, the Wave 723 doesn’t have a super AMOLED screen. However, the TFT LCD 3.2 inch screen on the 723 is actually better for daylight use, so it’s not such a bad thing. Just lie back in the park on a sunny day making the most of the 3G connectivity and the Wave 723’s extensive social network integration.

It may be cheaper than the original Wave, but the 723 still packs a punch.

Samsung Wave 723 Preview

Samsung developed its own Bada phone OS to compete with the likes of Android and the iPhone OS and the Wave 723 is one of their first attempts to bring the new OS to an affordable handset. The Wave 723 takes a lot of design cues from the original Wave but with some less expensive hardware features on board. The 3.2" screen is not Super AMOLED like the one found on the Wave but instead features a TFT LCD screen and has a slightly smaller resolution of 240 x 400. It still operates on capacitive technology and as such there is still multitouch support.

Like the Wave the Wave 723 comes with a 5 megapixel camera although this camera does not come with HD video capture, but is instead relegated to QVGA. There is still an LED flash, autofocus, Geo-Tagging and face detection however. With 90MB internal storage and 16GB of microSD cards there is plenty of room for snapped photos or videos of your favourite moments. This is also adequate enough room for an extensive range of music and video content to use with the phone´s media player.

The Wave 723 features 3G and Wi-Fi support for excellent web browsing and comes with email and RSS support. The Wave 723 can support a number of instant messaging clients as well as MMS and SMS support. The Wave 723 uses the Dolphin browser that provides extensive web compatibility and can be used in conjunction with multitouch. The Bada system is overlaid with Samsung TouchWiz UI which is a great joy to use. The Bada OS provides you with access to the Samsung app store where you can augment the system to your liking with various new features.

Like many smartphones on the market today the Wave 723 features great social networking integration. Information from social networks like Facebook and Twitter are pooled together to be combined with emails and messages in one unified social hub. With this social hub you can quickly see what your contacts are up to on a variety of different mediums and provides you with a more extensive choice of options when it comes to reaching out.

While the Wave 723 has a lot in common with the original Wave many of the features are a noticeable step down. However, the Wave 723 does offer a similar user experience to the Wave and at a much lower price tag. For the price that is being demanded the Wave 723 does offer a lot, and provides plenty of web and social networking features to keep users up to date with their friends.
