The thing that everyone loves about the Samsung Tocco range is the fact that they all look incredibly stylish. Slim and sleek, the Tocco range has always been smartly designed, and the Tocco Quick Tap is no exception.
Most notable for its “quick tap” feature that allows you to tap your phone onto a NFC payment device in order to pay, this could be the first in a full range of quick tap phones.
The Tocco Quick Tap brings Near Field Communications into the affordable smartphone range and is one of the first phones to successfully implement mobile payments through the new technology. With the Tocco Quick Tap you can tap your phone onto a NFC payment device to pay for items in participating retail outlets instead of getting out your credit card or cash. Although you are unlikely to be making major purchases with this technology it can be very handy thing to have to hand when making smaller purchases instead of rummaging around in your pocket looking for some loose change.
There are some early sceptics of mobile payment saying it raises problems with personal data and security due to the fact that if your phone is stolen then the thief not only has your phone but access to your money as well. In reality it is no different to using a credit card and like the credit card the service can be cancelled before any thief has the chance to go on a significant spending binge. While some people will be hesitant about the new technology most people will be attracted to the convenience it provides in day to day transactions.
The Quick Tap revives the Tocco brand that first made an appearance from Samsung back in 2008. The new device features a similar physical appearance to the earlier Tocco Lite and likewise comes with a set of affordable features. The Tocco comes with music and video support including an FM radio and streaming video, although the phone is limited to GPRS/EDGE for connectivity making it rather slow in this day and age. The Tocco Quick Tap comes with support for email, SMS, MMS and video messaging as well. The Tocco comes with a camera with zoom and a picture editor and also comes with Bluetooth support and a potential 8GB storage with microSD cards.
The Tocco Quick Tap comes with some good features on board for a phone of its price range although the connectivity options make it less than ideally suited for online pursuits. The main highlight of the Quick Tap is its NFC payment feature which gives this phone an edge even over more feature rich and expensive devices. If you are forever fishing around in your pocket for the right coinage at the shops while the queue behind grows ever more impatient then the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap may just be right up your alley. However, this feature aside the Tocco Quick Tap is essentially the Tocco Lite which was a fantastic phone when it was released but two years on feels rather dated.
