Samsung Xplorer B2100 Preview

The Samsung Xplorer B2100 is a great phone which will surely serve to provide a lot of competition to similar phones such as the Sonim XP3 in the conquest to attain supremacy in the rugged – phones market, which also includes other competitors such as the Nokia 5140i. The Samsung Xplorer B2100 will be released under different names for different networks, the names being ‘B2100 X-treme Edition’ and the ‘B2100 SOLID’, and promises to be more strong than the Samsung B2700 which was released in 2008. Similar to a number of modern day rugged phones, the Samsung Xplorer B2100 doesn’t really provide good value for money in the specs’ department and only has a very basic set of features but, if you want something that won’t desert you when you need it, the B2100 answers the call.

  • The 1.77 inch screen has a resolution of 120x160 pixels and is able to display a very vibrant 256k colours
  • Can survive in any temperature between – 20 and +60 degrees
  • The cover protects the phone from any shocks or falls
  • Phonebook has a capacity to store more than 1000 contacts, something which is quite common in even the most low – end device
  • The rubber coating increases the grip the user has on the phone
  • Water resistance for upto 1 meter (most of the other ‘rugged’ phones are only ‘splash resistant’)
  • Built-in torch
  • Internal memory of 7 MB which can be further expanded upto a maximum of 8 GB via the microSD memory card slot
  • GPRS and EDGE connectivity are available to connect to the internet wherever you go
  • 1.3 megapixel camera which can also capture videos
  • Bluetooth v2.0 for connecting and sharing data with other devices
  • Maximum talk time of upto 9 hours
  • Radio
  • MP3 player

When you look at the design, the B2100 doesn’t try to hide the fact that it is a rugged phone: it has primal looks, yet is very reliable. The B2100 is mostly black but has a couple of red strips running across the side parts of the phone. The keypad doesn’t incorporate any flash designs but is just perfect for someone who just wants to have a guarantee that the phone will withstand any pressure that is thrown at it.

However, the B2100 isn’t as bad looking as some of the other phones in the market (such as the Sonim XP3). The looks and design of the B2100 isn’t something to turn heads around, neither is it something that will make people get nauseous by looking at it. Samsung have done quite well with concern to the looks of the phone.

Overalledly, Samsung have done quite a good job of the Xplorer B2100. It has quite some good looks and will ensure that you won’t have to feel sheepish carrying it around wherever you go, but it sure does do what an ultra – rugged phone should do, which is just amazing for the people who want these features!
