Preview Summary:Sony Ericsson Hazel 3.5

Environmentalists, or even those of us who care about the future of the known world, will love the Sony Ericsson Hazel.

Combining eco-friendly materials and accessories, this GreenHeart handset is well-designed, with a sliding front and a curved feel. Its casing is also scratch/splash-resistant, while the 2.5” screen supports 16 million colours. Integrated GPS and Google Maps, you’ll never get lost while out hiking. Make your pals green with envy with your Sony Ericsson Hazel.

In a word or two

The Sony Ericsson Hazel is a feature-rich mobile phone with a green core.

The Design

The Sony Ericsson Hazel phone operates the same as the Elm mobile but has a slider instead of a candybar design. Both handsets join the Sony Ericsson GreenHeart range which currently includes the Naite and C901. Combining eco-friendly materials and accessories with a well designed, functional phone is what the Sony Ericsson Hazel is all about.

Available in superior black or passionate rouge, the Sony Ericsson Hazel slider phone has a 2.6 inch screen which supports 16 million colours and displays vibrant images and icons. The handset has a nice curved feel to it which makes it comfortable to hold and handle, and you can keep the mobile looking smart thanks to the scratch-resistant nature of the casing.

Sony Ericsson Hazel Specifications

The green credentials of the Sony Ericsson Hazel run beyond the handset being partially made from recycled plastics. There are several features inbuilt in the green mobile phone to help you be more environmentally friendly in your mobile communication. For example, to reduce your power consumption, you can view your social networking updates on the home screen; and the Widget Manager ensures all your favourite applications are in the one place and launching them is quicker.

There is also a Walkmate application on the Sony Ericsson Hazel which monitors how far you have walked. Given the splash resistance cover, you have limited excuses for not off-setting your carbon footprint by walking, whatever the weather. The application doesn’t tell you how many trees you’ve helped to save through your active lifestyle, though – a feature found on a similar application on the Samsung Blue Earth.

You will struggle to get lost on your walks – and drives – thanks to the integrated GPS and Google Maps. Along with finding the right route to take or most scenic walk, you can track your progress on the map.

When you’re not busy saving the planet, you can simply enjoy all the friendly features of the Sony Ericsson Hazel. With support for both 3G and Wi-Fi, accessing websites is quick and the phone comes with applications pre-loaded for the social networking sites Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. You can also text, send a multimedia message, email and activate instant messaging – as well as calling people. The Noise Shield function ensures call quality by cancelling background noise.

The camera on the Sony Ericsson Hazel is impressive. You can really capture every moment thanks to the camera’s 5-megapixels, autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face detection, and video option. There is even a secondary camera for making video calls.

Considerations

Considering there is a decent music player and FM radio with RDS, it is a shame there is no 3.5mm jack built into the Sony Ericsson Hazel.

Verdict

The Sony Ericsson Hazel boasts many green credentials, both inside and outside, together with a wide range of applications.
