Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman Preview

The Live with Walkman is an Android smartphone joining the ranks of music phones in Sony Ericsson´s Walkman range, employing the same four corner app interface that was found on earlier models such as the Sony Ericsson W8. While obviously offering some good music features the Live also includes plenty of other options to keep you entertained, and is offered in a petite body that is easy to slip into a pocket or bag.

The Live with Walkman offers a good amount of playback support for a wide range of music and video formats and includes Sony Ericsson´s Android media player which has a number of excellent additions to it that are well suited to music lovers. For example, while listening to a track in the music play you can tap a button and be taken directly to related videos in YouTube. There are other services on offer as well including Sony TrackID, helping you to uncover the name of a song being played in your vicinity.

The Live with Walkman comes with some decent stereo loudspeakers so that you can listen to your music in all its glory. Alternatively you can pop in some headphones, with the Live Walkman featuring Sony xLOUD enhancement. The phone also includes an FM radio with RDS and the ability to load the music player automatically when you insert your headphones.

Like the W8 Walkman and Xperia Mini phones the Live with Walkman is a smaller touchscreen device and comes with a 3.2 inch capacitive screen. The interface in use features four icons that are placed on each corner which can provide you with quick access to your favourite or most used apps. These can be customised so that you can set them up how you like. You can configure them to provide you with quick access to the music player, YouTube or your messages or any other app you like.

There are plenty of apps and games to play around with as well thanks to Android Market. There are also preinstalled apps included, with Google services such as Google Maps and YouTube available out of the box. Running on Android Gingerbread the Live with Walkman is an excellent phone for social networking too, with Facebook and Twitter support both on offer. The phone is also pretty handy for general web browsing thanks to 3G and Wi-Fi (including DLNA) support. With DLNA you can access other wireless devices to share or access music, videos and pictures.

For storage the phone comes with 320MB of internal memory with a further 32GB possible with microSD. A 2GB microSD card is included with the phone to get you started with plenty of room for your favourite music. As well as this the Live includes an excellent 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording and a front facing VGA camera.

All in all the Live with Walkman offers a fair amount of entertainment value online as well as offline. Sony Ericsson always add little tweaks to their interface that are of great benefit to music lovers and the Live is no exception. There is plenty of room on offer for a good amount of music as well as decent messaging and social networking features too.
