That should be enough for all the media files you’d need for a day’s worth of music listening on the road. Its Standard Lithium-Ion battery delivers a maximum of 7 hours of talk time on 2G and up to 300 hours of standby time on a full charge.
One of them is the Sony Ericsson S302, also known as the Athena. It is an affordable compact handset styled in the conventional candybar form factor on a handsomely designed but unassuming body measuring 101 x 46 x 12 mm and weighing a pocketable 79g, one of the lightest in the markets.
It is offered in two body colors – thunder grey and crystal blue. It has an alternate S302c model destined for Mainland China.
Basic Features up Close
The model is your basic quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) on the 2G network. If you are looking for 3G or WiFi handsets, look elsewhere. But it comes with local data connectivity option with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and miniUSB for wireless and wires data transfers, respectively.
It comes preloaded with the usual basic phone application like an organizer and a voice memo application. You also get a WAP 2.0 HTML browser which is useful once you get a data plan on GPRS which can reach a decent 236.8 Kbps for a decent online browsing and downloading experience while on the road. It also gets the usual email client support.
Its display is typical of compact conventional candybar with just a 2-inch TFT LCD screen with QCIF resolution with 256k colors. It images with a 2-megapixel fixed focus digicam with LED flash and a basic QCIF video recording capability. You get small enough media file sizes that gets easily sent via MMS without reducing the size or even as email attachment.
Multimedia get served with a monaural FM radio and an MP3A / AAC player with TrackID music recognition. You get a speakerphone but there’s no industry standard 3.5mm audio jack which leaves you to use the stereo earphones with the proprietary USB connectivity.
But with its A2DP profile support on Bluetooth, you can listen wirelessly using any compatible A2DP stereo earphones. You can have clips of your MP3 or AAC music files for your ringtones.
Internal memory storage gets a minimal 20 MB with phonebook capacity for up to 1,000 contact entries. Your multimedia files are better stored on an external memory card. The S302, however, doesn’t support the industry standard microSD memory expansion slot but uses Sony Ericsson’s proprietary Memory Stick Micro (M2) slot instead for up to 4 GB.
