The Vivaz Symbian flagship from the 4th largest mobile phone maker in the world Sony Ericsson gets a brother clothed in a new form factor sporting a tactile full QWERTY slider and gets slapped with a “Pro” suffix – the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro.  Apart form being heavier by 10 grams due to the added sliding QWERTY half-shell, and a diminished imaging prowess from the 8 megapixel camera on the Vivaz to one with just 5 megapixel resolution, the Pro is the Vivaz inside and on its façade.

Vivaz Features on a QWERTY Body

You get the same dual band 3G/UMTS with HSDPA/HSUPA data connectivity as well as a quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE on 2G. Local high speed data connectivity gets WiFi 802.11b/g with DLNA for hotspot internet surfing and Bluetooth 2.1 and microUSB 2.0 for data synching with similarly endowed devices.

Like the Vivaz, it has the same SatNav functionality with a built-in GPS receiver with A-GPS, Google Maps and the WisePilot navigation apps allowing voiced turn-by-turn direction.

The QWERTY slider body weighs 117g and measures 109 x 52 x 15 mm to accommodate the same 3.2-inch resistive touchscreen with WVGA (640 x 360) resolution and 16 million colors typical of Symbian support. There’s the same accelerometer for auto rotate viewing convenience and turn-face-down to mute or snooze its alarm. It also benefits from a scratch resistant surface. Its touchscreen sensitivity is remarkably responsive but suffers the same lack of proximity sensor on the Vivaz that should disable its sensitivity when held close to your ears in a call.

Its 5 megapixel camera gets the same LED Flash, autofocus, touch focus, face/smile detection and geo-tagging that puts it in the same upscale camera phone status as the Vivaz. It offers the same high definition 720p video recording at Blu-Ray grade 24fps frame rates with video light and continuous autofocus.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro clearly gets the Sony Walkman entertainment pedigree but apes the Vivaz shortfall in not having video playback support for DivX and Xvid codecs. A 3rd party solution should be able to address this. You get the same stereo FM receiver with RDS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, TV-out (VGA resolution) ports and Bluetooth A2DP support for wireless stereo earphones.

The phone memory on the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro has a respectable 75 MB expandable to 16 GB from its microSD memory expansion slot. Its retail package includes an 8 GB microSD card free. You also get a 1200 mAh Lithium-polymer battery that delivers one of the longest talk times in the industry with 12.5 hours as well as 18 days in standby when fully charged.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro handset is now available on O2. So for those moments you want to send a quick message, you can simply tap the screen, and for lengthier messaging, slide the keyboard out and enjoy comfortable typing. The inbuilt accelerometer means the screen automatically changes to landscape mode when the keyboard is out. And that’s not all. The Sony Erics...

Expected to be available sometime before the end of May, the Vivaz Pro is Sony Ericsson's latest offering in the communication entertainment market. Utilizing the same “human curvature” design seen in many of Sony Ericsson's recent mobile devices, the Vivaz Pro is designed to interface seamlessly with the user to allow for maximum usability and precise, intuitive control and interaction with the mobile device. Along those lines, the Vivaz Pro includes a full slide-out QWER...
To say that Sony Ericsson is back on its feet would be skipping plenty of much needed explanations. First off, the company was in far worse positions than being knocked down -it was practically sinking into a mush of financial deficits. The situation was more than bad; it was bleak, with little hope of recovery and many experts predicting that the end for the giant is coming soon. Well, it looks like Bert Nordberg has plenty to teach the public as he has taken control of things and is steering the joint venture into greener pastures. The end of the first quarter of 2010 sees Sony Ericsson o...
Successful launches of its latest smartphones, the XPERIA X10 and the Vivaz in particular, have helped Sony Ericsson gain an unexpected profit for the first three months of 2010. Although mobile phone sales actually fell by 28% to 10.5 million, compared to the same time last year, the company still achieved a profit. Sony Ericsson said it was because of new handsets and cutbacks – which is why its net profit is €21 million ($28 million/£18 million), whereas the same period in 2009 saw a loss of €293 million. Highlighting the latest smartphones, XPERIA X10 and Vivaz as selling especial...
