Superior Features
First off, the X2 uses the same Qualcomm MSM 7200 processor clocked at 528 MHz used in the first X1 but it nor runs an updated Windows Mobile 6.5. It’s the same 3G phone on the tri band UMTS radio with US and European versions and is also a quad band GSM on 2G.
It gets complete data connectivity on both networks with HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA at 2 Mbps on 3G and class 10 GPRS at 48 Kbps and EDGE at 236.8 Kbps on 2G/2m5G. Local data syncing and transfers are supported by Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and microUSB 2.0.
Its display grows a mere 0.2 inches from the X1’s outdated 3-inch display and sports the same resistive touchscreen technology found on cheaper entry level smartphones. It carries the same WideVGA resolution which is wasted on a 64k color depth limitation the Windows Mobile OS is challenged to overcome. It gets an optical trackpad and the standard gravity accelerometer for auto rotate viewing.
It’s the imaging that gets to leap from the mediocre 3.2 megapixel resolution in the X1 to a flagship-grade 8 megapixel resolution on the X2 with autofocus, touch focus, LED flash, geo tagging and image stabilization. You also get Wide-VGA video recording at a 30fps. It still has no secondary video call support though this can be addressed with future firmware patch.
Multimedia is less an emphasis out of the box with no support for a built-in FM radio which can be enabled with a firmware update. You also get a basic media content playback for all the popular audio and vide files. There’s a 3.5mm audio jack for wired stereo listening and you can use the A2DP support fore wireless stereo listening.

Latest Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 News
If there is one series from Sony Ericsson that any smart phone fans should be familiar with, it is the XPERIA series of devices.
The first two smart phones under this line were the XPERIA X1 and X2. These two Windows Mobile smart phones combined business functionality with plenty of media access capabilities. The resistive touch screen tends to be bothersome, but since the WinMo OS is reliant on stylus input, users do not have much of a choice. Of course, due to the choice of operating system, the X1 and X2 did not succeed much in the market.

When Sony Ericsson announced that the XPERIA X2 will not be making it to its intended 2009 launch date, everyone already knew that the 2010 release date would be too close to the X10. Now, with only a week or so before X10 gets a public appearance, the X2 arrives with a 500 Euro price tag and specs that are pretty much so-last-year
The problem, as HTC HD2 has shown, is not with the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system. Though some may argue that the very root is the WinMo interface, it has been shown that with a little ingenuity, there are workarounds to delivering a great user experience.

Touch screen phones have been unkind to Windows. In particular, capacitive touch screen phones are the bane of the operating system. The lack of compatibility with finger input is what probably kept many manufacturers from using the Windows Mobile consistently. With OS such as the Android and LiMo, many feel that WinMo 6.5 simply does not have what it takes to be used in today’s modern devices. Take the account of the HTC HD2 for example, it is a well accepted and much loved WinMo 6.5 device, but mostly due to the fact that the HTC Sense interface is what gives the phone its great usability.

With Sony Ericsson’s XPERIA X2 about to arrive any time now, HTC has taken the lead by releasing the HD2. Despite the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional OS, the HD2 will be using a capacitive high definition touch screen. Now, I seriously believe that Snapdragon mobile phones are devices to be reckoned with, but when you waste that much processing power on a bad OS, it makes me want to think twice. Still, I expect a lot of great things from HTC, considering that their proprietary touch interface is really impressive and they have a knack for creating really great mobile phones.
