Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V Preview

From the front the Xperia Neo V looks a lot like Sony Ericsson´s current flagship the Xperia Arc. The Neo V does not come with an arced back, and is a little bit thicker than the Arc. However, it does come with a similar shape and similar Android buttons below the screen that will give it a very familiar feel to anyone who has previously used an Xperia phone from Sony Ericsson.

Aside from the extra thickness the Xperia Neo is actually smaller than the Xperia Arc, thanks to the slightly smaller 3.7 inch screen it uses. Although it is a little bit smaller it offers a comparable level of quality with 16 million colours, WVGA resolution and use of Sony´s Mobile BRAVIA Engine for superior graphics. The screen operates on LED backlit LCD technology and supports multitouch input as well.

The Xperia Neo V runs on Android Gingerbread with Sony Ericsson´s overly blue interface on top. This includes the Timescape widget which allows you to keep track of all social networking, messaging and emails in one easy and convenient place on your homescreen. This is all powered by a 1GHz processor and 512MB RAM.

As such you would expect the Neo V to come with great connectivity – and it does. 3G and Wi-Fi are both on offer, including DLNA Wi-Fi and support for using the phone as a wireless hotspot. DLNA can allow you to connect the device to another wireless device to share music, videos and pictures and an additional HDMI port can allow you to stream videos and other content to a home TV.

The Neo V is a good phone for web browsing too, with an excellent browser on board. Social networking an email are both well supported, and the Neo V includes online entertainment support with the likes of YouTube. Additionally, the phone supports a wide range of music and video formats for offline entertainment. Although the phone only comes with a small 320MB storage it does support 32GB microSD cards and comes with a 2GB card included.

The Neo V has a 5 megapixel camera which offers superb picture and video quality. It supports 720p video recording and also boasts a range of features including an LED flash, touch focus and 3D sweep panorama. A secondary VGA camera is also included on the front.

The Xperia Neo V is not remarkably different from previous Xperia phones from Sony Ericsson. This is not a criticism, but rather of a guarantee of excellent entertainment, web browsing and general smartphone usage.
