They usually come at least in pairs, mostly to take care of the widest possible markets from both ends. When Vodafone got Samsung as its OEM for its 360 H1 aimed at the upscale markets, it didn’t forget the lower end of the market. It got Samsung to make a watered-down H1 smartphone and rebadged it as the Vodafone 360 M1

Not exactly a cheap budget phone, but the M1 has less endowed features and is clearly pitched to a more budget-bothered market that still wants value for a full touchscreen monoblock smartphone. And they won’t get disappointed on the H1. It even comes in three colors of white, red and black.

High Value Smartphone

You get what you pay for. That also goes for smartphones. The M1 didn’t get cheap without doing some serious cost cut backs that include taking out the WiFi and reducing the imaging resolution from the 5 megapixels in the H1 to just 3.2 megapixels. It also brings down the 16 GB internal memory on the H1 down to 1GB, still generous by any standard but you really won’t fit all your multimedia files in it, but rather use the microSD card up for up to 32 GB which the handset support.

With a diminished electronic prowess, it’s only natural to expect it to come down in heft as well. It does, getting significantly 23g lighter at 111g and measures a more compact but slightly thicker 112 x 55.4 x 13.4 mm. With a smaller body, its display is likewise downsized from 3.5 to 3.2 inches. It also loses the capacitive AMOLED display technology and goes TFT LCD resistive touchscreen with lesser Wide QVGA resolution but with the same 16 million colors.

Other than those pruning, the Vodafone 360 M1 is another capable smartphone running on the same ARM Cortex A8 clocked at 600 MHz with a dedicated PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator. Against the Android grain, it runs a reinvigorated Linux Mobile OS (Li-Mo) on its second release 2.0.1 with 3D UI.

As a 3G phone on the single band UMTS (2100), it offers a single HSDPA data connectivity speed at 3.6 Mbps. It’s also a quad band GSM with class 12 GPRS/EDGE data speeds up to 236.8 Kbps on 2G. It has Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and miniUSB 2.0 for local data transfers and synching with other devices. It has SatNav functionality with an integrated GPS with A-GPS support. It still has a stereo FM radio with RDS and a 3.5mm audio jack so you can have wired and wireless stereo listening with its A2DP profile support.

Vodafone’s 360 network is one of the most interesting and innovative social networking tools to be introduced last 2009. To start things off right, Vodafone started the service with the launch of three new smart phones carrying the Vodafone brand (which were manufactured by Samsung). The 360 series of handsets bring together features of mid to high end smart phones while still keeping within a reasonable price range. As good as that may sound, the success of the 360 network is not as big as what one might think it would have been. Despite creating a comprehensive social portal for all commu...
The Vodafone 360 M1 is the lighter version of the 360 H1. Let us say this out right, this is a great phone, but unless your budget is restraining you, get yourself the H1 if you can. That said, if you are looking for a Linux Mobile experience and you can not afford the cost of the H1, then the Vodafone 360 M1 is a perfect alternative. It still packs most of the better features of the original 360 but only with a few adjustments to make it a more affordable.
