T-Mobile is one of the 5 major mobile phone networks within the UK and is a subsidiary of the larger telecommunications giant Deutsche Telecom. T-Mobile has around 150 million customers globally making it the 8th largest mobile phone network in the world. Originally a branch of the West German government´s Deutsche Bundespost, Deutsche Telecom was separated into a unique organisation and eventually privatised in 1996. T-Mobile is the brand identity of Deutsche Telecom´s mobile phone interests and the company is the fourth largest network within the UK. Like rival phone networks O2 and Orange, T-Mobile has its own chain of phone stores as well as providing network coverage. Also like these other companies T-Mobile only retail phones on their own network so if you want to purchase a phone on another network you would need to look at an independent retailer.

T-Mobile also regularly team up with major phone manufacturers to come out with their own T-Mobile branded phones. A popular example would be the T-Mobile G1 which is essentially a rebranded HTC phone. The T-Mobile stores are not limited to selling T-Mobile branded phones however, as they stock most major phones on the market.

T-Mobile is to be seen on the high street but also have its own online store. Here many deals can be found and some of them are exclusive to their online store. Being a network provider itself T-Mobile does not need to operate through any middle men and can offer the best deals available, essentially because they are the people who make the deals. They will also have more knowledge and expertise than any other company or retailer about T-Mobile phones and the contracts or tariffs available. There are some free gifts to be had with some deals but unlike smaller retailers they are not as widespread.

T-Mobile´s store, either online or in the high street, would be a good place to start when looking for a T-Mobile phone. However, if you would prefer a phone on another network it would be advisable to look at a non-affiliated store.
