Alcatel One Touch XTRA Review: First Look
The Alcatel One Touch XTRA is a budget Pay As You Go phone with a heart of social networking and a nice design. Rounded and with a shiny edged front – chrome effect, or black if you opt for the cherry red colour scheme – the phone looks sleek and is complemented by the soft-touch back.
If you want a phone that does more than make calls and sends texts but costs less than £50, make sure you investigate the Alcatel One Touch XTRA. Rivalling the likes of the LG Cookie and HTC Tattoo, the XTRA sports a 2.4 inch resistive touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. As Alcatel puts it, this phone has “dual function” – you can press the screen to activate your commands or press the keys on the physical keyboard instead. And although it’s resistive and won’t be able to compete with smartphones like the iPhone 3G S or the Samsung Wave, with a price this low this is perfectly acceptable.
When you buy the Alcatel One Touch XTRA you get an array of, well, extras. There is an MP3 player and FM radio, and you can listen through your earphones thanks to the inclusion of a 3.5mm audio jack. The 2-megapixel camera may be basic but it can capture film footage too. And the memory can be boosted to up to 8GB via a microSD card.
There is social networking functionality too on the 2G Alcatel One Touch XTRA. Apps are said to include Twitter and Facebook, and news and weather.
For a super-cheap mobile phone which lets you email, message and browse the internet using either a touchscreen or a physical keyboard – or both – the Alcatel One Touch XTRA promises to be a great choice.
