Dell Mini 3 Review
In a word or two
The Dell Mini 3 is a range of mobile phones which mark the computer giant’s entry into the smartphone market.
The Design
Modelled fairly closely on the iPhone, the Dell Mini 3 smartphone is a similar size albeit slightly taller. The look is sleek and minimalist, with the front completely dominated by the 3.5 inch touchscreen – in fact, the only buttons on the phone are the volume control keys on the side.
With a black body, the Dell Mini 3 has curved corners so you can hold it comfortably in your hand. There is a silver strip across the phone’s back, above the Dell logo. As you’d expect from such a large screen, the virtual keyboard is spacious and the keys finger-friendly. The mobile phone can be auto-rotated so you can also type in landscape mode for those lengthier messages.
Dell Mini 3 Specifications
The Dell Mini 3 range of smartphones mark Dell Computers entry into the market, rivalling the likes of the iPhone 3G S and Palm Pre. Currently, there are limited details available on the new Dell smartphone, although we do know the phone will be released initially in China and Brazil.
Varying slightly for the China Mobile network and Brazil’s Claro network, the Dell Mini 3 promises to offer many features for a competitive price. China Mobile is the biggest mobile network in the world, and so it is understandable why Dell chose to launch the smartphone on this network. However, this version of the Dell Mini 3 mobile phone will run on a variant of the Google Android Operating System and will have no Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity.
The Dell Mini 3 phone which is set to be released in Brazil at the end of 2009, will operate using the Android platform and will offer 3G and Wi-Fi. Although the exact specifications of this new range of smartphones from Dell have yet to be confirmed, you can expect to enjoy various communication options. The Dell Mini 3 smartphone should feature text message, multimedia text messages, instant messaging and email.
The Bluetooth and microUSB functions allow you to transfer files, pictures and music to and from your Dell Mini 3; and the memory can be expanded up to 32GB via the microSD card. The Dell Mini 3 smartphone also has a 3.1-megapixel camera with digital zoom, flash, autofocus, photo editing ability and video.
Verdict
Until we receive confirmation of the features of the Dell Mini 3, we cannot comment on how well Dell’s new range of smartphones operates. The touchscreen is high-definition and the icons are colourful, promising an enjoyable user experience. The Android operating system is reliable and user-friendly, and with expected features including Google, instant messaging, email and support for YouTube, the Dell Mini 3 should be a strong contender to the other smartphones on the market.
We will update you on the details of the Dell Mini 3 soon.
