The LG GT540 will impress you with its looks if not its technical prowess.

 

 

The LG GT540 has a contemporary design with a glossy case and convex top and bottom. The smoothness of the mobile phone is elevated by the silver strip which runs down both sides. There are three keys on the front for back, home and accessing the menu or making calls, which are joined together in a long curvy shape.

 

The 3 inch screen takes up most of the space on the front of the LG GT540. When you access the screen, the four icons situated along the bottom give you direct access to the menu, emails and call options. Being an Android smartphone – the younger brother to the LG GW620 – there are seven home screens inbuilt on the phone, ready for you to decorate with your icons.

 

Using the phone is fairly effortless even though the touchscreen is resistive. Like the HTC Tattoo and HTC Smart, you need to press the screen on the LG GT540 rather than lightly tap to register your requests. However, to demonstrate how friendly this phone is to use, it features Motion UI Player which lets you, for example, simply shake the phone to change the song you are listening to in the music player application.

 

 

The LG GT540 has plenty of Google functions to keep you busy including Google Search, Gmail and YouTube. There is also the Google Maps function on this phone which combined with the internal GPS system lets you plan your journeys and track your progress. And if you want any more applications, you can simply browse the Android Market and take your pick.

 

There is a 3-megapixel camera installed on the LG GT540 with autofocus and a digital zoom. The dedicated camera key on the side of the phone speeds up how quickly you can capture the scene and as the screen can be rotated you can also take panoramic shots. If you want to keep lots of photos stored on your phone, you can do so as the internal memory is expandable to up to 32GB via a microSD card.

 

Geared for social networking, the LG GT540 has Facebook, Twitter and Bebo applications integrated with live updates. You can chat with friends easily online – supported by the 3G and Wi-Fi connections – or opt to email, send a multimedia message, engage in instant messaging, send a text message or call.

 

 

The LG GT540 promises to be a strong budget smartphone with a modern design combined with friendly interface and features.
