Motorola Krave ZN4 Reviews
Introduction
The Motorola Krave ZN4 is a new phone from Motorola that uses touch screen technology and a nice flip phone design. However, there have been a lot of negatives about this phone due to its lack of usability and the high price when you compare it with other phones on the market. I think the phone has a nice set of features and works pretty well but I have to agree that it is really nothing when you compare it to some of the other touch screen phones of the same price on the market. I watched a video review of this phone and I have to say I’m not that impressed with the user interface and I feel that’s where this phone is let down.
Specifications
The phone is equipped with a good set of features such as a 2 mega pixel camera and media player. However, apart from that the phone is rather limited in terms of features and for the price I think it’s a poor attempt by Motorola. I think the best feature of this phone is the design and looks which is a shame because it should have both design and looks as well as a high quality set of features in order to compete with phones that are in the same price range. The phone has a flip design which uses an innovative touch screen clear cover which is able to sense usage and allow access to the menu without even opening the phone.
Of course, once you do open the phone you have access to the full menu which is displayed on the high resolution 2.8 inch screen which is very good. However, the phone’s a bit flawed in that when you close the flip part of the phone the image is squeezed down to accommodate the large Motorola logo on the front which I think is a bit of a problem. The image and videos that you want to see are then made smaller which loses quality of the resolution and is a bit odd really as it’s just to accommodate a logo.
The phone does have a nice set of features though and the email and texting facility is good. You can use the phone in either portrait or landscape view to type texts and if you turn the phone to landscape the phone automatically changes to the correct view and a QWERTY keyboard pops up. However, there are problems with this as well because it’s not very well designed and isn’t very easy to use so users may find that the usual predictive text method on portrait view is best.
Looks
Like I said before, I think the phone’s best feature is its looks and the design of the phone is good in terms of how it looks. In terms of usability however, it’s not the best at all. The look and feel of the phone is high quality though and you’ll probably enjoy showing it off to your friends. The design of the flip touch screen is very innovative and is the first of its kind – although to be honest I think it should be the last of its kind as well. The phone does well as a touch screen but I don’t think it really needs two touch screen displays. Also, as the phone is limited in terms of features it’s a bit of a wasted area.
I like the overall look of the phone and I think it serves its purpose well. However, I’m not sure it’s going to be everyone’s cup of tea and I think the usability issues make it a little bit pointless as a phone. The phone may look the part of a smart phone with high quality features but in reality it isn’t so it’s basically a cover for the poor quality inside the phone. The features on the phone are nothing compared to the design and I think this is a little weird because the phone isn’t even that great looking.
Design
The design of the phone is good in terms of looks but when it comes to the features of the phone you may be a little surprised to see that not much thought has gone into it in terms of usability. The phone is awkward and fiddly to use and because you have to have the flip open to turn it over to landscape view the usability is affected and it simply looks odd. I think a candy bar or classic phone like the LG phones are best at this sort of display and Motorola seems to have missed the point.
Overall
All in all, this phone has a good set of features but isn’t as high tech as it should be when you consider the price of this phone. It isn’t free on contact – you’ll be looking at about £50 depending on which network you choose and to be honest for that price you would expect more than a 3.2 mega pixel camera and much more than what this phone offers in terms of its other features. Having said that, the phone isn’t bad at all and if you can look past the average features and the poor usability then by all means buy this phone because it does look good and can be an ok personal phone.
The phone’s looks are the best features and I think if you’re looking for a stylish phone that has an ok set of features then this could be the one for you but if you want to spend your money on something a little better then I’d suggest you head for a touch screen phone from LG as the quality is much better. I think Motorola have made a good attempt at something they don’t usually do but to be honest I don’t think they should have tried this hard. They seem to be using the looks of the phone to distract from the quality of the features and in my opinion this is a big no, no.
The phone has a good look to it and overall I think it’ll sell well – I’m just not sure how it’ll fair against some of the latest smart phones and touch screen phones from LG. For the price, this phone simply doesn’t compare and I’m not sure how long it’ll be at this price. If the price were to drop and the usability issues addressed then this phone could be a great device, but in reality I’m afraid it’s a poor device with poor features and is simply over priced.
