Motorola QUENCH Review

In a word or two
The Motorola QUENCH is a user-friendly mobile phone that is ideal for enjoying communication online and offline.

The Design
A similar size but a little thinner than the Motorola DEXT phone as there is no slide-out keyboard onboard, the Motorola QUENCH has curved edges and a textured back for a comfortable and secure hold. The back is also resistant to finger prints, helping you keep your phone nice and clean – and with so many features for social networking, this is a good choice of material. You can add your personality too as these back covers can be changed between black, white, liquorice and purple.

The 3.1 screen is the same size as the one on the DEXT but the QUENCH comes with a touchpad beneath the screen to support your user experience. You can scroll in all directions on the pad and press to make a selection. There are hardware buttons for home, menu, search and back, on either side of the pad – unlike the capacitive screen, these all require a fairly firm press to register.

Motorola QUENCH Specifications
The Motorola QUENCH is Motorola’s eighth phone to be run on the Android OS but only the second to house the Motoblur UI. This UI is all about making social networking a breeze for you, bringing all your updates from Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and other accounts into the one widget on your home screen. You can check all your friends’ communication in the one place as a result including emails, messages and MMS. You can also link contacts to your various accounts (social networking and email).

The Motoblur UI has a cloud-based service that lets you save your phone data online. This is a great option as it means should you change your handset, lose your phone or have it stolen, all your information is still available and can be wiped remotely if needs be.

You enjoy a new way to text on the Motorola QUENCH thanks to its Swype technology. Swype means you keep your finger in contact with the screen as you write your message, tracing the word on the keyboard rather than tapping each individual letter. This feels a little strange at first but it’s quite easy to get the hang of and does speed up messaging once you are comfortable with it.

Visually, the Motorola QUENCH has much to offer. When you listen to music on the phone, the cover art is displayed as well as playlists and artist/album details. There is an FM radio for variety and a 3.5mm audio connector so you can listen to your music as you travel. You can take photos and make videos from your phone too as the 5-megapixel camera has a video option – the image quality is fairly decent thanks to the LED flash and autofocus, and the YouTube app means you can share your footage easily as well as upload photos to various social networking sites.

The internal processor ensures apps run well and the capacitive screen lets you interact swiftly too. There is support for 3G and Wi-Fi connections together with Bluetooth and GPS, so you can browse the internet or download further apps onto your phone via the Android Market effortlessly.

Considerations
Compared to many phones on the market currently, the screen is fairly small.

Verdict
If you want a reasonably priced and friendly handset for staying in touch with friends and family in a fun and efficient way, the Motorola QUENCH is a good choice.
