Motorola W375 review
Introduction
The Motorola W375 is a small and compact phone that was released in 2006 during the month of June. The phone has very little features and even in 2006 it would have been a very basic phone. The phone does have a camera but it’s VGA and probably isn’t very good at all. The phone is also equipped with an FM radio so you can listen to your favourite radio station using the headset as an antenna and there is also a USB cable which allows you to transfer files to and from your PC and phone – not that there would be much point because the phone has a tiny memory of just 1.5MB.
Specifications
Like I said, the Motorola W375 has very little feature inside. There are a few worth mentioning such as the FM radio which means you can listen to the radio while on the go and the phone also has a good SMS and MMS facility so you can send and receive texts and multimedia messages. However, that is actually about all you get with this phone so if you’re looking for a super duper high tech phone you need to move on. At least, I guess, the phone is very good looking but then Motorola have always been good and churning out great looking phones.
The phone does have WAP but it’ll be the super old school internet on your phone that allows you to download maybe a couple of ringtones but that’s about it. The phone does have predictive text and a T9 dictionary so texting will be easy with this phone. The phone also has an organiser which allows you to look at a calendar, memos and set reminders and alarms. You can also take advantage of the calculator and built in hands free which is useful for drivers who need to take calls while they’re on the go or away from home.
The phone does have very good battery life and this is probably the best feature about the phone. You’d be looking at about 7.5 hours of talk time which is very impressive and about 250 hours of standby time which is, again, very good for a phone of the year 2006. You can also customise this phone quite well using the composer for ringtones or just simply downloading or transferring songs which can be played as MP3’s. This phone is very basic so if you’re looking for something with that bit extra, I’d suggest you look elsewhere. This phone is good as a basic phone call making phone.
Looks
In terms of looks this phone is actually pretty swish. It’s compact and measures in at about 99mm by 45mm by 18.6mm which is very small and it only weighs 88 grams but then it doesn’t have much on it so it can afford to be small. The phone is also available in several colours, which I always like about a phone because it gives the user the chance to be unique. You can buy this phone in Cannon Gray, Lustrous Silver or Mandarin Orange so you get to choose from some interesting colours at least.
I do like the look of this phone and the display and high quality design of the outside is good when you consider the year it was released. But unfortunately I think it’s trying to be something it’s not. It has a very sophisticated and stylish outside design but inside it is extremely empty in terms of features. You’d think a phone this basic wouldn’t need to look flashy so I feel it’s trying to hide the fact that it’s boring or something. Either way, it is a great looking phone; just make sure you don’t assume it’ll be great just because it looks great.
Design
I think the design is good and serves its purpose. The phone is simple and basic and so is the software and the applications and features inside are very minimal so the design does match the phones internal assets. The phone does have an xHTML browser which is quite good but obviously it’ll be mobile broadband not broadband on your mobile! It is a good phone, don’t get me wrong, I just find it amusing to look at old phones and remember that back then these were top of the range – although I think even this phone would have been on the lower end of the market.
Overall
All in all, this phone is very basic and as long as you remember that then you should be ok and you should be able to use it. If you’re new to mobile phones then this could be an option because it is so simple that even a monkey could learn the controls. Motorola mobile phones have always been good looking when compared with other designs and I have to say that this phone proves that point. However, I think recently, Motorola have been left behind design wise. Anyway, this phone is good and I think if you’re looking for a really basic phone then you’ll do well with this.
The design is good and the basic features are at least available. The VGA camera won’t be terrible but it won’t be very good either. I think you’d be able to get away with close ups but nothing far away at all, and by far away I mean arms length! Ok, I do like this phone and I am pretty impressed with the exterior design but internally it’s very simple and empty in terms of applications and features. The phone doesn’t even have a media player and I am pretty sure that most mobile phones in 2006 had music players.
All in all, the phone is good as a basic phone but I’m pretty shocked at the year it was released. I’d have said this phone could have been top of the range in 2002 instead of being bottom of the range in 2006. Anyway, all in all, it’s a good phone. Best for basic users I think because it has little or no complications in the user interface so you’ll be able to learn the controls quickly and easily.
