Nokia 1616 Review

In a word or two
The Nokia 1616 is built to last and for simple mobile phone communication.

The Design
A perfect palm phone, the Nokia 1616 fits snugly in your hand thanks to its compact and rounded design. To glance at, the mobile looks very like the Nokia 1800 except it has a chrome-edged navigation pad instead of a full chrome one. The case of the Nokia 1616 is also exchangeable and you have a choice of black, dark grey, dark blue and dark red cases.

Just like the 1800, the 1616 is framed by its case, elevating the look of the phone. The black and grey cases add a touch of simplistic sophistication to the phone whereas the blue and red colours brighten the phone. The blue top and bottom sections, and blue strips down each side, enhance the feeling of quality that this mobile possesses.

Solidly constructed, the 1.8 inch screen is sight-friendly and big enough to enjoy the display and trademark Nokia large icons. Navigating the menus is easy with the large navigation pad and spacious, separated keys. And you can keep your Nokia 1616 looking new for longer as the covers are scratch-resistant and the keypad dust-resistant.

Nokia 1616 Specifications
Created to help phone consumers living in rural communities, the Nokia 1616 has an impressively long-lasting battery and can be kept on standby for up to 22 days. Specifically targeting the developing communities, the phone supports Nokia Life Tools services which cover Agriculture, Education and Entertainment. You can find out knowledge which is relevant for your world, for example the local weather forecast. Nokia Life Tools also has access to general knowledge, careers information and daily horoscopes, along with entertainment news, market news and jokes.

This application was first introduced on the Nokia 2323 Classic and the 2330 Classic phones. The other Nokia mobiles in this budget range include the 1280, 2220 Slide and 2690.

For more personal contact with your world, you have SMS and support for SMS speed dialling. You can send and receive text messages from friends and family, storing up to 250 of your favourite messages on your Nokia 1616. Organising contacts is easy as the phone has a number of phonebooks which allows you to share your phone hassle-free or group your friends according to your preferences.

There are also practical features of the Nokia 1616. There is a flashlight inbuilt into the top of the phone, conveniently transforming it into a torch for those dark moments. The phone has a calendar to help you stay organised and a speaking alarm clock to make doubly sure you operate in a timely fashion.

Considerations
The Nokia 1616 is a basic phone with no web browser or email.

Verdict
With an FM radio and inbuilt games to keep you happy during quiet times, the Nokia 1616 is an ideal mobile phone if you are on a budget or crave simplistic mobile phone technology.
