Nokia 2680 Slide Review - read honest Nokia 2680 Slide reviews
Introduction
The relatively new Nokia 2680 Slide is a phone from Nokia which was released in September of 2008. This is a very basic handset and offers just enough features to satisfy the most basic users. However, this phone hasn’t received too much praise in the way of reviews and a lot of people think it is just too basic to even cater to basic mobile phone users’ needs. The phone is equipped with a camera, a media player and FM radio and that’s about it. The handset is quite stylish and we think it’ll be popular with people who just want a basic mobile phone but for £50 we think you could get more from Samsung.
Specifications
In terms of features, this is probably the most basic mobile phone you could ever buy. It has a media player for MP3’s so you can listen to music, the phone has a VGA camera which is very low quality and also FM radio which can be listened to and recorded. The phone has a very poor internet connection on GPRS which allows for very basic browsing and email. However, a lot of the features on this phone seem a bit wasted. The MP3 player for example is pretty useless because the phone only has 35MB of internal memory and there is no expansion slot so 35MB is all you’ll ever have.
The phone also lacks a USB port which means you can’t even transfer files to and from your PC. The FM recording feature is pretty pointless when you consider the phone only has 35MB of internal memory as well. The phone does have Nokia Audio Xpress Messaging but again, this feature is rarely used by basic mobile phone users. The phone also has an advanced calculator and an organiser so you can use the calendar but with such low memory available you won’t be able to store many memos.
All in all, we think the Nokia 2680 Slide is a very poor phone in terms of features and a lot of them don’t seem very thought through. The phone’s talk time is 3.5 hours which is about average for an entry level phone. Basically, if you’re looking for a phone that will simply make phone calls then this is what you need – however, for £50 (which is what this phone is priced at) you could get a lot more for your money from Samsung. We’re not saying this phone is useless, we’re just saying you can do better for the price in today’s mobile phone market.
Looks
In terms of looks, the Nokia 2680 Slide has a nice simple slide design and is very basic – much like the features inside. The phone is small and measures in at about 99mm by 47.1mm by 14.8mm which is quite tiny for a slide phone. The phone weighs about 97 grams which is actually quite heavy when you consider the battery life isn’t fantastic and the features are so lacking. The phone doesn’t appear to have any usability issues and is probably very easy to use because it’s so simple. We think it’ll appeal to first time mobile phone users and it’ll probably be quite popular for people who just need a mobile phone for calls and nothing else.
The phone’s looks aren’t bad at all and it’s definitely not an ugly phone. It’s just very simple and it won’t be to everyone’s taste of course. However, the phone is available in a variety of colours; Slate Gray, Night Blue, Orange and Violet so users will have a good choice of colours to choose from. All in all, the looks of the phone are fine and they match the interior of the phone – simple, basic and let’s be honest – rather boring.
Design
In terms of design, the Nokia 2680 Slide has a good design and the software and applications are all very well made and work well. With a phone as simple as this it’s probably quite hard to get anything wrong so it’s a good thing that this phone works well and smoothly. The design of the exterior is good and there are no usability issues and the phone’s operating system and user interface all appear to work well and quickly. It’s a good design with a good rate of speed for usability and it’ll probably be easy to use.
Overall
All in all, the Nokia 2680 Slide is a good phone for what it was made for and is simple and easy to use. However, we feel that the features are a little bit too lacking and don’t appear to offer the user anything exciting at all. Some of the features are even a bit pointless because of the low memory and this makes us wonder why Nokia even bothered. Samsung have a lot of phones like this but they always offer good memory and at least some sort of internet which isn’t from the dark ages. For the same price with Samsung you could get a much better phone.
Because of this, we can’t recommend the Nokia 2680 Slide too highly but it’ll probably be suitable for extremely basic users who literally want a phone to make calls. The price of £50 seems a bit too high for this phone to be honest and it’ll probably affect the sales. A lack of any real features makes this phone a bit of a let down and we think it’ll suffer up against Samsung’s entry level mobile phones. It’s a shame because Nokia were the kings of basic mobile phones but it appears they’ve messed up with this one.
Overall, the Nokia 2680 Slide is a nice looking phone with a very poor set of features and it’ll probably be a phone that flops. It just doesn’t offer enough and even basic mobile phone users will be disappointed with this phone. However, it does offer a simplicity that may make it popular – if you don’t want any bells and whistles then this phone is ideal for you. Although, we’re pretty sure that if you can get more for the same price then you aren’t going to want this phone.
