Nokia 2690 Review
In a word or two
The Nokia 2690 is a compact mobile phone which is practical and enjoyable to use.
The Design
The Nokia 2690 phone is good looking and has a two-tonal appearance. The screen is framed in black and the keypad is black – the case is available in four different colours: white silver, pink, blue and graphite. The two colours give the phone a distinctive look, especially as the band with the navigation key, call keys and screen selection keys, are located on the coloured case.
The 1.8 inch screen displays images in bright colours and, typical of Nokia, the menus are easy to navigate thanks to the large icons and text size. The keys on the main keypad are nicely spaced and allow for easy and quick typing and dialling.
Nokia 2690 Specifications
One of the 11 mobiles Nokia has launched with the Nokia Life Tools installed, the Nokia 2690 offers access to the Nokia Life Tools Agriculture, Education and Entertainment services. Other Nokia phones with this application include the 1280, 1616, and 1800. Originally designed for consumers in developing countries, the Nokia Life Tools encompass practical knowledge like local produce prices and weather forecasts, career advice and exam pointers. The Entertainment services include news, jokes and daily horoscopes.
The Nokia 2690 supports a web browser so you can search for specific information or just surf the internet from your phone. Like the Nokia 2220 Slide phone, the 2690 also has an email feature which lets you receive, open and send emails on the move. You can set up email accounts in a few simple steps thanks to the user-friendly interface on the phone.
The internal memory of the Nokia 2690 is bolstered by its microSD card slot for up to 8GB of expandable storage space. This extra space lets you enjoy the music player feature, downloading songs onto your phone so you can listen back to them at a later date. There is a VGA camera inbuilt on the mobile for taking snaps on the move, which you can then either store or send to friends via email or multimedia picture messages. With Bluetooth and microUSB connectivity, you can easily transfer files, music and photos to other mobiles or straight to your computer.
Considerations
The phone is similar in design to the Nokia 2700 Classic but without some of the features. For example, the camera is only VGA – equivalent to 0.3 megapixels – whereas the 2700 has a 2-megapixel camera.
Verdict
The Nokia 2690 is compact, lightweight and inexpensive. With some nice features including internet, email, FM radio and music player, and camera, the phone offers great value for money.
