Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition Review
In a word or two
The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition is so much more than a mobile phone.
The Design
The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition is a beautiful and powerful all-in-one mobile phone that combines TV with camera with social networking with music with gaming. In a case that is smaller but a little thicker than the iPhone 3G S, the design of the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition is impressive.
You can choose between gloss black and matt white for the exterior, and whichever colour you choose you will enjoy the slick look of the metal edge on the navigation key and the silver slide-down keypad.
The all-important screen of the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition measures 2.4 inches and supports over 16 million colours. This is ideal for watching all your favourite TV programmes or viewing pictures on your phone.
Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition Specifications
The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition is similar to the Nokia 5330 XpressMusic phone, except with mobile broadcast TV. There is a powerful inbuilt receiver which offers you a decent picture using DVB-H TV – provided, of course, that this is transmitted where you live. More and more countries are gaining DVB-H TV capacity and Nokia claim that in addition to the current countries, a further 20 will receive it in the next 12 to 18 months.
A headset is included so you can watch TV privately or share the experience using the phone’s speakers. With the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition, you can indulge in watching TV for up to 6 hours straight, should you so wish. The features are helpful – you can enjoy the electronic programme guide to help plan your viewing schedule and there are channel search buttons and volume keys to make the process even easier.
Similarly, there are dedicated keys for the music player. The Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition has play, pause, forward and rewind buttons to enhance your aural pleasure. Access to the Nokia Music Store means you can browse tracks and download your favourites straight onto your phone. There should be plenty of space for your music as the 70MB internal memory is bolstered by the 1GB memory card which comes with the phone, and there is capacity for up to 16GB via the memory card slot. With only one charge, you can listen to up to 26 hours of continuous music, including on the inbuilt FM radio.
There are also all the social networking aspects of the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition to be enjoyed. You can quickly access popular sites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and MySpace straight from the phone, and with Ovi support you can share your photos online as well as merge your mobile with your PC for contacts. For email, you can access up to ten accounts including Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo through Nokia Messaging.
Considerations
The screen on the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition is relatively small at 2.4 inches, compared to other smartphones on the market like the HTC Hero (3.2 inches) and the iPhone 3G S (3.5 inches). However, these are not direct competitors and Nokia has packed mobile TV into an impressively small case.
Verdict
For pretty-much everything at your fingertips, the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition looks great too and is small enough to be carried with you wherever you go.
